Subject: Capt. John Donaldson in July 1776 From: Scottsbo12 Date: June 07, 2000 Is this the same John who was a Capt. in the 3rd SC Rgmt. under Thompson at Ft. Sullivan. If so my 4th gr grandfather John McCutchen mentioned him in his pension app. He said that after repelling the British he contracted an illness (likely malaria), was first sent to a hospital in Charleston and was then sent for by Col. Thompson. He further states that he was carried in a wagon to Camden by "John Donaldson and Eli Kershaw, both Captains in the Continental Army". I know Kershaw was a scion of a wealthy family from the Camden area...maybe Donaldson also lived there and took this opportunity to visit home. Would like to know more about this Capt. Donaldson.
