I'm not a Cantey researcher, so I don't know what might be already familiar and what might be new. But just this week I ran across two interesting little Cantey notes. One, in H.A.M. Smith's study of the Upper Ashley River (SC Historical and Genealogical Magazine, vol 20, p. 192) has a discussion of Cantey landholdings on the Ashley from 1695, long before they migrated to Camden. By 1800, "so completely had their identification with the Ashley River been lost that the writer was once informed by a member of the family that Camden was the point of their first settlement..."
