African American BRABHAM Grand Reunion Underway in Denmark, SC



A big thank you and kiss to Cousin Shirley Bookhart Brabham of SC for
the task of organizing this weekend's BRABHAM Family reunion.

As fate would have it, Saturday 1 July was the day I happened to make my
first (short) visit to U.S. KFOR/NATO "Camp Able Sentry" here in Skopje,
Macedonia.

The first 2 persons I met were both African American soldiers on duty.
We "chatted" very briefly, and one told me he's from SOUTH CAROLINA.
I didn't ask his name or where from, but I shared that my ancestors also
were from SC and specifically mentioned BUFORD'S BRIDGE which
made all of us smile.  This was on Day 1 of the Brabham Grand Reunion
in the old home state.

So I hope we were in SC in spirit.

Cousin Judy Brabham writes and tells me she heard something about this
weekend's African American BRABHAM Family reunion in Denmark, SC.

It's in the Orangeburg (S.C.) Times and Democrat.  The article also mentions
good ol' BUFORD'S BRIDGE.  I believe that's the old name for BAMBERG,
SC, which I deliberately passed through back in 1979.

I remember I took a photo of orange tiger lilies in a field.

"DESCENDANTS OF SLAVES FROM BUFORD'S BRIDGE PLAN GRAND
REUNION"

"More than 200 descendants of slaves from the Brabham Plantation of
Buford's Bridge will converge upon Denmark this weekend for a highly
anticipated grand reunion they hope will be the first of many....
(first paragraph only).

The location was planned for VOORHEES College in Denmark.

If anyone has this article we'd sure like to read it and share it.  The
Orangeburg newspaper is supposed to be online.
