BRABHAM and LOWNDES in South Carolina - Douglas/Ungaro

Hello,

I am researching my family in South Carolina, especially around Colleton, Charleston and Orangeburgh (Bamberg). I think the Lowndes were mainly around Colleton, and the Brabhams around Charleston and the islands. Some of my ancestors (into the 20th century) spoke Gullah.

One ancestor I have is Caesar Lowndes, listed in the SC 1870 census, in Colleton. There are a number of Lowndes in this enumeration, and many may be related.

Were there Lowndes and Brabham plantations in South Carolina? If so, where may I find wills? (I cannot travel to South Carolina now, as I am in Europe.)

My search may also be related to Tennessee. I was told the Lowndes "came from Tennessee", but the only TN Lowndes I located in early censuses, was one Caesar, in Chattanooga, listed in the TN 1890 Veterans Schedule. Connection or coincidence? I tend to think connection, but haven't figured it out yet. There were no other Lowndes listed in Tennessee, and most were listed in SC. Curious.

Any suggestions or clues will be much appreciated. Thank you.
