Subject: Book - The Frontier in the Colonial South From: Donna Witt Date: March 13, 2000 Hello, Has anyone read the book (and can recommend): "The Frontier in the Colonial South: South Carolina Backcountry, 1736-1800" by George Lloyd Johnson, Jr. From the description it sounds like a great book, but I am wondering if the tax rolls and church records are included. "minutely tracing "backcountry" (the remote peninsula area of the Pee Dee) life in South Carolina. The interplay of the Baptist Church with the indigo industry and with extensive transportation systems molded the area into a unique region. He has uncovered tax rolls and inventories and church records that shed light on life as it was."
