I am vigorously researching my African American roots. I am Caucasian by 
appearance.

My GGGG Gf was named JAMES DAVIS (free Negro). His mother was LUCY WIDEMAN of 
Abbeville area. Living next to HENRY WIDEMAN  (LUCY'S father) at the time of 
JAMES birth was a JAMES DAVIS. He owned many slaves. It is my assumption that 
JAMES received his surname from the owner of his slave father.

But I have been unable to locate a will or estate for JAMES DAVIS, slave 
owner.
