This book had its origin in a 1983 publication by Samuel Malone, Black Families
Heritage of Cherokee County, which was revised in 1986 and 1991. That volume
listed only descendants of original black families of Cherokee County, as found
in the 1910-1920 Federal Censuses. With this present publication, Mr. Malone has
expanded his coverage to include all black families of Cherokee County
represented in those two censuses.
