OK, ya'll. Here is some of my old family. Keep in mind that
until four years ago (1996) we thought we were 'just poor
southerners.' More about this family is available in a book
called "The Ironmasters Kin..." which sells for $8 (yep, just
eight) throught the Broad River Genealogy Society in northern
South Carolina.

For something to do while waiting for postal delivery, check out
the National Park Service home page on the Bird and Ross
foundaries at:

In case you are wondering 'why did I get this,' here are some
possibilities:
We are related (family moved quite quickly to Rutherford Co
NC/Cherokee Co SC (or parent counties). Associated families are
McSwain, Roberts, Cooper, Smith, Nance, Lipscomb, Moore and
others.

You are researching the places, people, or history.

You have a foundary business (Gary W). The Birds started
several foundaries in the Carolinas.

Here goes:

William Bird was born in England in 1706 or 1707 and came to
Pennsylvania before 1733.

The Bird family married into the Rev. George Ross family early.
Rev. George Ross (b. 1679 in Balblair Scotland) came to the
Colonies in about 1703.

William Bird's family built, owned, and operated several iron
forges and furnaces see:
