Notes:

1. Spelling is sic, any transcription errors being forgiven.

2. A question mark inside parentheses indicates the transcriber is not confident
as to the correct reading or that the text was not legible. Square brackets []
indicate material that is explanatory or not found in the document. Curved
brackets {} are as shown in the document.

3. For this presentation, little attempt has been made to layout the text
identical to that shown in the documents. In particular, words per line and
line breaks vary. Some attempt has been made to reproduce capitalization,
punctuation, and spelling as read. However, this is not an exact and true
reproduction.

4. In 1800, Sumter District South Carolina was formed in what had been Old
Camden District by the merger of Clarendon, Claremont, and Salem counties. In
1855, Clarendon was taken from Sumter District and reconstituted with the same
boundaries it had in 1785. In 1888, part of that area was taken from Clarendon
County and merged into the newly created Florence County. The South Carolina
Constitution of 1868 declared that "the Judicial Districts shall hereafter be
designated as Counties."

5. It is left to the reader to verify the accuracy of this transcription prior
to use.
