Subject: Benjamin Kirkland From: Lbate18495 Date: July 14, 1998 Hello The gentleman in the subject line is one of my maternal fourth- greatgrandfathers. He was born in Edgefield District South Carolina in 1795. He died in Henry County Alabama in either 1854 or 1867. He was a Millwright. Now Benjamin married Winifred Armstrong in 1813. They moved to Henry County early in the county's history. Here are the names of their five children born in Alabama. Mila Henrietta, Mahala, Marina, Martin, and Benjamin. Martin and Benjamin were killed in the War of Northern Aggression. I think that Benjamin's father was either Caleb Kirkland or Benjamin Kirkland Jr. If there is anyone doing research on this family please contact me. I also am interested in finding the name of the Emigrant Kirkland ancestor. I believe the origin of the surname is Scots Gaelic it was KirkLayne at one time. One of their Tartans is the Stewart(Stuart) Hunting Tartan. The Clan Kirkland was a related family of the House of Stuart. Thank you Jacob L.
