The reenactment of the Battle of Boykin Mills will take place at 1:00 p.m. on
Sat. and Sun. April 18 and 19th. Hundreds of Civil War reenactment soldiers
will recreate one of the last battles of the war, which occurred on April 18,
1865. 

The public is invited to tour the camps from 10 - 4 each day. There will be a
concert of Civil War tunes at 8:00 p.m. Saturday at the Swift Creek Church.

(Boykin is between Stateburg, Sumter County and Camden, Kershaw County. It's
on Highway 261.)

Then on Saturday, April 25th the Sumter County Museum will host a Civil War
Living History Event in the Carolina Backcountry Homestead located on the
grounds of the museum. Members of the 21st South Carolina infantry
re-enactment will set up camp on the premises.

Kensington Mansion Tour

Located on the Union Camp property in Lower Richland County (Eastover, just
across the Wateree River from Sumter County), the spring tour season for the
antebellum Kensington mansion is upon us. Built in 1854 and placed on the
National Register of Historic Places, the house has been restored and
refurbished under the guidance of the Sumter County Museum and Archives.

Guided tours are provided on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Thur. and Fri.
tours are by appointment only at 10 and 11:30 a.m. and 1 and 2:30 p.m.) Sat.
tours are conducted on the hours from 10 - 3. Appt. for Sat. are not necessary
but are recommended. Groups of 10 or more do require a reservation.
