Margaret,

If you are interested in the Ball family who owned rice plantations
on the Cooper River, you should run to the nearest book store or visit
Amazon.com and get a copy of "Slaves in the Family" by Edward Ball,
Farrar, Straus & Giroux, a brand new book. It traces the origins of the
Ball family from its origins in Devonshire, England and their
developement in South Carolina since arriving there in 1699.
Significantly, Ed Ball also traces the origins of the slaves they owned
and trackes, where he can their descendants to the present day. As you
might expect, he uncovers blood relations between modern day Balls and
the descendants of the slaves their ancestors owned. Makes for
interesting and enlightening reading on a side of history and genealogy
that is seldom covered.

Best regards,

Kelvin Kean
