Subject: Baker/Byrd/Newell deed Sumter District 1810 From: Deborah Byrd Date: December 06, 1999 I would like to know if any of these people are connected through marriage to John Baker d. 1862 Sumter Disctrict and his first wife Mary. d. abt 1828 in Sumter. Wonder if she may have been born a Byrd. In a Sumter county Deed dated 1810, William Byrd of Orangeburg district and James Newel of Sumter and acting as agents for all of the heirs sell out to John Baker of Sumter. Cosigners of the deed include John Byrd, Margaret Byrd William S. Byrd and James Newell (the only one who signed with a mark). Witnesses were Ed. Byrd and Thomas Newell.
