It appears we have common ancestors with the Ayers and the Paynes:

I have back to John AYERS and Mary WALKER parents of-
Nathaniel AYERS born 14 March 1700 in Woodbridge, NJ, died 12 Feb 1777 
Pittsylvania Co, VA
married Rhody,  they are the parents of-
Yannaka AYERS born 1733-1742 VA? died after 1811, living in Franklin Co, 
TN 1811
married Thomas PAYNE, Sr, born 22 October 1721 in Middlesex Co, VA, died 
after 1811, TN
They were the parents of Poindexter PAYNE who married Annie Bell HILL.
They were the parents of Cleveland PAYNE, born c 1816 TN and died after 
1860.  Cleveland PAYNE married Jalah Jane ? also born c 1816 Tn.  He was 
living in Madison Co, AL in 1880.  She was found living in 1870 TX 
census;  probably died Kaufman Co, TX.
They were the parents of Josiah Poindexter PAYNE born 3 August 1839, 
Grundy Co, TN and died
3 Dec 1933, Marshall Co, AL.  His wife was Martha Clementine MEEKS born 9 
March 1841 in Grundy Co, TN and died 21 June 1919 Marshall Co, AL.  Her 
parents were James David MEEKS and Nancy SMITH.  
They were the parents of Nancy Jane PAYNE born 27 August 1857 born Grundy 
Co, TN and died 21 October 1948 in Marshall Co, TN.  Her husband was 
Richard Alonso MANLEY born TN.  These were my great-grandparents.

Taking the PAYNE line backwards;
Above mentioned  Thomas PAYNE, Sr- his parents were Thomas PAYNE II BORN 
1684 Middlesex Co VA and died 1721 Essex Co VA.   His wife was Catherine 
LYDFORD (LEDFORD) daughter of Rev. Matthew LYDFORD who married Lettice 
WEEKES in Middlesex Co, VA 26 May 1715.  She was the daughter of Abraham 
WEEKES, will 1691 Middlesex Co, VA.
The parents of Thomas PAYNE II were Thomas PAYNE I born after 1660 Old 
Rappahannok Co Va and died 1698 Middlesex Co Va and his wife Mary 
MONTAGUE who died 1786/87.  She was the daughter of Peter MONTAGUE, Jr 
and Mary DOODES.  His father was Peter MONTAGUE Sr born 1604 who came to 
America in 1621 on the "Charles"; his will 1 July 1651 Lancaster Co VA.  
His mother was Cecely JORDAN born 12 Sept 1660.  Mary DOODES parents were 
Minor and Mary DOODES.  He came to  America in 1650;  his will 13 Dec 
1677 Middlesex Co VA.   
The father of Thomas PAYNE I was Ralph PAYNE, who came to VA before 1656 
with his brother Thomas PAYNE.  Their father was also named Thomas PAYNE.

I wonder if my Thomas Payne Sr who married Yannaka Ayers is the brother 
of Ann Payne and/or Abigail Payne.

Could you tell me what your sources are for the Ayers line.  Frankly my 
information was given to me by an aquaintance of a second cousin in AL.  
I have done some research on the Paynes and have found published work on 
the VA Paynes.  Also the Weekes will is on a VA CD and have found lots of 
TN records on Cleveland Payne and James David Meeks.  The Montague line 
is also published.  Your information on the Ayers family is totally new.  
Thanks for any information you can give me on sources or documents I can 
get hold of.
