And those women were never taught to swim,could not in those long dresses
etc ; today we would discard those garments and make an attempt to
escape,right?
Not demeaning those ladies,they bore hardships and babies like we cannot
imagine.Marion

What a terrible accident!  It's articles like this that always make me
wonder
what our ancestors' feelings about life and death must have been.  Life
seems
to have been more tenuous then, with fewer ways to save the sick, the
injured,
and accident victims like these.  I always imagine the horror those left
must
have felt, followed by this community resolve to go on.  What else could
they
have done?  Thanks so much for typing this up.
