============================================
Dear Great Great Great Great Grandfather Joseph BAKER,
I am writing this letter to you in the hopes that I might be able to find out more about you, your life and your family. I have searched for a lot of years, trying to find out what I could. It has only been very recently that I was able to determine that your given name was Joseph, and that you passed on sometime in the year of 1838 in Flat Creek Township, Lancaster County, South Carolina. I still have no information at all concerning your time and/or place of birth. I know of your given name of Joseph only thru the assistance of another researcher who happened upon records of the Lancaster County Court proceedings in which your widow, Margaret BAKER, was awarded custody of your three children. This proceeding took place in December of 1838. It is known from various census records of that area, that Margaret was born in about the year 1797 in South Carolina. I still have absolutely no information concerning her family either, and am not positive concerning whether her!
 maiden name was either TALBOT or NEISSEN. But, I digress. I know quite a bit about your three children; Andrew Jackson BAKER; Elisheba Jane BAKER; and John Talbot BAKER and their ensuing generations. I know most about your first born, Andrew Jackson BAKER [b. 6 Mar 1825 - d. 8 May 1896], since he is of my direct line. I am curious as to whether or not his wife, whose maiden name was Lydia Jane BAKER, was some relation or not, since her family was also of the Flat Creek area. All of this is still a mystery to me.
I would truly appreciate finding out more about you and your ancestry. Thank you for your time and attention.
Your Great Great Great Great Grandson,
Bill Hughes       (c)¿(c)¬
