The original All Saints Parish included the whole of Waccamaw peninsula, a strip
of land thirty miles long and two to three miles wide along the coast of South
Carolina. The area was made up primarily of wealthy rice planters and their
slaves and until the twentieth century was remote and inaccessible.

All Saints Church, Waccamaw, written by the Rev. Henry DeSaussure Bull,
presented a narrative account of this interesting parish and church from 1739 to
the publication of the book in 1948, along with parish records. A revised
edition was issued in 1968 and contained updated material from the parish
register, including lists. of baptisms, confirmations, communicants, marriages,
burials, clegy, and lay officers. By 1981 the book was out of print. The present
edition, sponsored by the Church and prepared by Alberta Lachicotte Quattlebaum,
George Rowe Townsend, and Katherine Wells, represents a substantially expanded
work, which includes the 1968 edition intact and covers in narrative form the
many developments up to and into the first half of 1994. Information from the
parish register has been updated through 1992, the year marking the 225th
anniversary of All Saints Church as an established parish. Many illustrations
not in previous printings are included, along with old documents that have been
recently discovered. Also, the 1994 edition contains for the first time an index
of both the text and the parish register records. This index covers the 1968
edition as well as the new one and greatly enhances the book's value as a source
of historical and genealogical material.
