Subject: Address From: Gary Wilbanks Date: April 07, 1999 Message text written by INTERNET:[email protected] >Could someone give me the website for vital records in SC? I also need some advice. Would I write to Columbia or the town to receive a death certificate with father's name? I absolutely need father's name to see if a connection is there for my Boysworth search. Thanks for any help. Beth < **************************** Beth, I'm not going to be any help with addresses but I just wanted to tell you that the SC Department of Archives and History in Columbia, SC does have death certificates from 1915 to I think 1940. I'm sure they would provide you with a copy. There is a fee but it is reasonable. I would send $5.00 or $10.00 and tell them to keep any change as a donation. You would need to have a date of death and the county where the individual died so they can find the record quickly. At a minimum have the month and year of death plus the county. I'm pretty sure the individual county Health Departments keep death certificates. I know Greenville County does. In Greenville County, a death certificate search while you wait costs $5.00 as of three years ago. I do not know what the cost would be if they have to mail it to you. At the SC Department of Archives and History, I have done my own search through the death certificate files and the only cost was making copies (.50 each). I hope someone else can provide the addresses you need. I hope I was of some help.
