I hope this is genealogy related enough.

According to my Mother, who was small when her father died, he served in World
War I.  But not as an enlisted soldier.  She says it was some kind of after
clean=up.  Restoring power, rebuilding lines, etc.  He was an electrician in
Union Co.  She says there was a name for this type of Service, but she cannot
remember
what it was.

Can anyone help?
I would really appreciate any I could get.
