I appreciate Steve Coker posting the reports of South Carolina history. I
read each one carefully hoping to find some reference to my BOYD family, but
alas, nothing as yet. In a number of these reports I've come across the
surname IZARD, as I did in this report. When I do it always brings to mind
a book in my possession entitled, " Nairne's Muskhogean Journals, The 1708
Expedition to the Mississippi River" by Captain Thomas Nairne, Edited by
Alexander Moore. In this book are three references to Ralph IZARD who was
the President of Carolina's Board of Commissioners of the Indian Trade.
Ralph Izard received a report from Narine dated April 12, 1708, concerning
the "Chicasaw Tribe" of Indians. In another account Nairne reports to Izard
the names of several of the Indians.

I bought two copies of this book about ten years ago and sent one copy to my
alma mater, Charleston Southern University, Charleston, SC, to be included
in the Izard Collection of the L. Mendal Rivers Library at the University.
It is of note that the University is situated on the former location of the
Ralph Izard Plantation. Dr. Margaret Gilmore, the university historian, has
collected considerable historical data on Ralph Izard. Some excavation of
the old plantation house site has produced various items.

Since Izard is a well known name in South Carolina history I thought others
would appreciate this information. P. S. I miss the Low Country very much,
but the hills of North Mississippi "called" my wife and now I'm in a
"foreign land." Sincerely,
