Subject: 1870 Census From: Barbara Wouters Date: September 03, 1999 The Reuben T. and Reuben E. Walling families of Berkeley County are in the 1850, 1860, and 1880 Censuses but not the 1870. Someone has suggested that some families refused to participate because of anger at Federal authorities. Was there any destruction of property in Berkeley during the war? I know my great grandfather, James Madison Madray died in the war. Did families exit the area? I would appreciate any help From those of you who have been at this longer than I have.
