Request #: 34/405 Commissioners in charge of the sale of lands and goods as authorized by an Act (1782 February 26) passed by the General Assembly of South Carolina when meeting at Jacksonborough, South Carolina. Sales were held at Jacksonborough, Pocotaligo, and Georgetown, South Carolina from 15 May to 15 August 1782; and at Charleston, South Carolina from 16 June to 18 June 1783. Sales brought in over one million pounds in currency. Volume (1782-1783) listing the sale of lands and goods confiscated from loyalists during and after the Revolutionary War. Entries indicate that land was the chief commodity sold; but livestock, tools, furniture and household goods, wharves, town lots, slaves, and even a church pew were also sold. Accounts note the names of property owners whose property was seized, the names of those who bought property, and the amounts paid. The volume also contains lists of the names of individuals who purchased slaves and the amounts paid. Handwritten excerpts from the volume available in repository. Photocopies.
