Subject: Re: 10 mi. House, or 4 mi. House From: Lynn S Teague Date: September 08, 1999 Janet, It's the Four Mile House; my mother always pointed it out when we passed it. Anyway, I don't have the old SCROOTS references, but in the South Carolina Historical Magazine, Vol. XIX page 32 (Jan 1918) in the article on Charleston Neck, it says"This Four mile hosue was for many years a noted road house or tavern for travellers on the road to and from Charleston. About 1812 it was kept by a man anmed Fisher who with his wife was indicted for the murder of one of several travellers who at different times had disappeared after taking shelter at this Inn. Both Fisher and his wife were convicted and executed. In the Charleston Book published in 1845 consisting of selections from the writings of Charlestonians is a graphic account by John Blake White of the execution of Fisher and his wife under th etitle of "The Dungeon and the Gallows." A relative of my paternal grandmother owned the land across the road at the time -- glad they weren't also disposed of.
