Marriage and Death Notices from the Up-Country of South Carolina.

The marriage and death notices contained in this database are from four
newspapers, all published in Greenville, South Carolina. This county seat is
located near the border with North Carolina and Georgia, but these newspapers
covered persons from throughout the state and region. Notices in this collection
date from 1826 to 1863, and can include persons from Alabama, Connecticut,
Maine, Massachusetts, Missouri, New York, and Virginia. The four newspapers are,
the Greenville Republican, Greenville Mountaineer, Southern Patriot, and
Southern Enterprise.

Married at Chimney Rock, North Carolina, on Thursday evening, the 14th ult., by
the Rev. J. J. DuBose, Dr. William C. Kilgore, of Liberty Hill, S. C. to Miss
Ellen Louise, daughter of J. W. Harris of Rutherford County, N. C.

GREENVILLE MOUNTAINEER (December 14, 1849)
In Greenville, S. C., on Thursday evening, the 29th ult., by the Rev. W. A.
Gamewell, James R. DuBose, Esq., of Washington, Geo., to Miss Elizabeth A.
Vance, formerly of Charleston.

GREENVILLE REPUBLICAN (August 19, 1826)
Died in Charleston on the 13th ult., Mr. Garret DeBow, in the 52d year of his
age, a native of New York, but for the last 20 years a resident of the former
city.

SOUTHERN ENTERPRISE (September 20, 1860)
Married on Tuesday, September 4th, 1860, at Fairfield, near Nashville, at the
residence of the bride, by the Rev. Dr. Howell, J. D. B. DeBow of Louisiana, and
Martha E., daughter of the late John Jones, Esq., of Nashville, Tenn.
