The first Charter of the Province of Carolina granted by King Charles included all the lands lying between the thirty-first and thirty-sixth degrees of north latitude. Two years later the King enlarged these boundaries to include all the lands lying from the 29th degree to 36�30" and from these points on the sea coast westward in parallel lines to the Pacific Ocean.
