Last Rites Held For Mrs. Roten
The funeral service for Mrs. Ada Jane Roten, 93, was held at the Rich Hill Methodist church Saturday afternoon with Rev. Dewey Roten officiating. Burial followed in the cemetery there.
Mrs. Roten is survived by one son, J.K. Roten, West Jefferson and several nieces and nephews.

- Separated from Ada Jane Roten before child Roby was born. Family tradition has it that Ada Jane and Eli were opposites and therefore did not stay together. On the day Roby was born, Jacob Roten went to town and had Roby "bound" to him. This was the same as adoption. Roby used the surname Roten throughout his life. Parents: Jacob ROTEN and Nancy B. LATHAM.

Albert Ray Roten, age 76, of Creston, died Monday, April 22 at the Watauga Medical Center.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 24 at the Big Laurel Church of Christ in Christian Union. Rev. Earl Woods and Rev. Darrell Graybeal officiated. Burial will follow in the Roten Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m., prior to the service.
Mr. Roten was born August 14, 1925, in Ashe County to Joseph and Nettie Miller Roten. His parents preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Maggie Osborne Roten; one daughter, Louise Viers of Laurel Springs; five sons, Jamie and Larry Roten of Wilkesboro, Gary, Jerry and Leonard Roten of Creston; one sister, Ada Wood of Creston; and a number of grandchildren
