"Susan, this is a picture of mother. The fur may be a studio prop, I don't know. But you can see she felt quite comfortable with it. Mother always had presence of mind. She was the oldest child and pretty much the virtual mother of her siblings. This would be about the time she met dad, about 18, 19 yrs of age. She and her grandmother, Louisa Johns, were very close. Louisa encouraged Mom to learn piano and guided her in religion. JJJ tells of Lou's conversion in her 40's. I think this photo would look nice in the Morgan Gallery next to Robert, her dad. She and he were close, too, but he wasn't very religious, telling her on his death bed that he was a believer...maybe just to soothe her???"         Dave
