Urban ZIEMBA and Maria
nee GALUS
One of the biographies in the St. Stanislaus Church (Duncan, Platte
County, Nebraska) Centennial book is of Joseph and Mary DROZD
ZIEMBA. Joseph's father, Urban, "came to the U.S. from Tarnow,
Poland in 1896 to seek out a suitable home for his family. His
wife, Mary (Galus) Ziemba, brought the rest of the family across in
1899." (St. Stanislaus Centennial Book, page 172)
My initial interest in this family was to see if I could
find a connection between Mary GALUS and my GALUS line, which
originated from Leki Gorne / Łęki Górne, Poland.
However, I
did not find anything about her or her husband in the Parish of Leki
Gorne / Łęki
Górne.
In September 2006 I ordered one of the LDS microfilms (#2037802) for
the Parish of Szynwałd, Poland, researching another surname.
While searching these records, I
recognized the names of Urban ZIEMBA and Mary nee GALUS on a baptism
record. Serendipity!! I have found no connection
between Maria's and my GALUS family, so far.
Urban ZIEMBA and Maria GALUS were married in Szynwałd, Galicia,
Poland.
19 Oct 1881
Groom: Urbanus Zięba, son of
Thomas and Helena nee Laska, Catholic, age 31, single, house 15
Bride: Maria Galus, daughter
of Casimirus and Julianna nee Litwin, Catholic, age 25, single
Witnesses: Dominicus Stanczyk, Antonius Galus
(Source: LDS microfilm 2037802, item 10, page 49)
So far I found baptism records for two of their children born in
Szynwałd.
Catharina ZIĘBA, Catholic, daughter,

Born 9 Feb 1883, baptized 10 Feb 1883; house 214

Godparents: Antonius Golus, Catharina Golus wife of Joannes
(LDS microfilm, 2037802, item 1, page 259)
Joannes ZIĘBA, Catholic, son, legitimate
Born 1 Feb 1885, baptized 4 Feb 1885; house 214
