URZENDOWSKI / SANDOWSKI / SANDUSKY

Rose C. GALUS, daughter of Frank GALUS and Clara LASSEK, was my 3rd cousin once removed.  Frank was a son of Bartholomew GALUS and Anna SLAWINSKI, who immigrated to Platte County, Butler Township, Nebraska, from Leki Gorne, Galicia, Austrian Poland.  See Bartholomew GALUS  for more information about this line.

Rose married Louis G. MATYJA on 1 Aug 1932 in Columbus, Platte County, Nebraska.  Louis was born 2 Aug 1907 in Nebraska, a son of John MATYJA and Katharine URZENDOWSKA.  According to their marriage record, John and Katharine's parents were: Joseph MATYJA and Agnes MATYJA, and Louis URZENDOWSKI and Mary WRINSTOCK.  Noted on the marriage record was: Catherine Urzendowska (alias Sandowska).  One of the witnesses was named: Joseph Urzendowski (Sandowski).

After adding Katharine / Catharine to one of my family trees at Ancestry.com, I located and extracted several records about her family.  In the 1920 and 1930 U.S. censuses Katharine's mother Mary URZENDOWSKI was widowed -- her address was 3220 K Street, Omaha, Douglas County, Nebraska.  My Grandparents Stanislaus and Martha GALUS bought that house, along with two adjacent houses at 3218 and 3216 K, in the early 1940s when they moved from Columbus to Omaha.  My parents lived at 3218 K when I was born, and we later moved to 3220 K, after my youngest sister was born.

According to an e-mail I received  from another researcher some time back, John MATYJA, Katharine's husband, was from Leki Gorne / Leki Dolne, Austrian Poland -- the same village that my grandparents Stanislaus and Martha were from.  I have not located him in the Parish microfilmed records as yet.
