Obituaries

Joseph Paprocki
Death Obituary taken from the Columbus Telegram,
June 7, 1916 (Marge's note: DOD was 23 Jun 1916. Date of article was probably July 7, 1916.)
From the Family of Andrew and Maryanna Paprocki 1790-1980, by Geraldine Paprocki Preister, page 84

Deepest sorrow was brought to St. Michael's parish last Friday when it became known that Joseph Paprocki had passed away in St. Mary's hospital at Columbus. In an accident on October 4, 1915 he had one of his legs broken. He was taken to the hospital the following day and spent eleven weeks there after which he came home, but the shock of the accident had undermined his health and two months ago he was forced to return to the hospital. His condition seemed to be improving until Wednesday of last week when it took a change for the worse and he passed away about 9:15 p.m. Friday. Mr Paprocki was born in Poland, in 1844 being 72 years of age at the time of his death. He came to this country about 1880 and for some years farmed near Tarnov. He later retired from active farm life and made his home in Tarnov. He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Mrs. John F. Tworek of Duncan; four sons, Albert, Steve, Frank and Stanislaus, of Tarnov, and one Step-son Mr. Bartyzel of Genoa. Mr Paprocki was the oldest settler in St. Michael's parish. The remains were brought to Tarnov Saturday evening and funeral services were conducted Monday at 9 a.m. by Rev. Fr. Kanute in St. Michael's church. Rev. Fr. Dennis of Columbus and Rev. Fr. Maurus of St. Anthony assisted Rev. Fr. Kanute in the Requiem Mass. Burial was made in the parish cemetery. Among those from a distance who were here to attend the services were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lassek, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Lassek, Mr. and Mrs. John F. Tworek and family and Mrs. F. Tryba all from Duncan; Mr. and Mrs. J. Bartyzel and family, Mrs. Joe Rosno, Mr. and Mrs. John Rosno and Joe Paprocki from Genoa; Mrs. Aug. Zipper of Silver Creek, Joe Kusek of Elyria; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Buggi and family; and "Grandma" Buggi, F. Zabawa, Mrs. Marie Savage, Emil Krings, Leo and Tom Paprocki, Mrs. Andrew Paprocki and Mrs. Tom Jaworski from Columbus.

Note:  I have found many misspellings of names in these records.  Use the information as a guide for further research.

John and Victoria were married in 1911.  Their 1920 and 1930 U.S. census entries show that they immigrated to the U.S. prior to 1910.  These may be the 1910 census entries for each of them.  While some of the information between the censuses for John doesn't match, the 1910 census shows a John PROROK residing in Boone County, Nebraska, which is where the John PROROK of the marriage record indicates he is living.

In September 1918 John filled out the World War I Draft Registration card.  He gave his date of birth as March 1877, which does not match the year of birth on his entry at Find A Grave (1878).  Since he listed Victoria as his nearest relative, I am guessing this is the same John and Victoria PROROK as noted in the marriage record above.  I have found many times that the date of birth on the Draft Registrations does not match other records.

Update 28 Feb 2017
The Mormon web site, FamilySearch.org, has had an ongoing project to put their microfilms online and/or index them.  The baptism records for the Parish of Łęki Górne, which includes Łęki Dolne, have been indexed.  Using the names of John's parents as the search criteria, the results show several of their children were baptized in the Łęki Górne Parish.  His index entry is https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:X5MG-XQK . I looked up John's baptism record on the microfilmed records.  This is my transcription of his record.

1878 March, date of birth 14, date of baptism 15; house 131 Leki Dolne
Joannes, Catholic, son, legitimate
Father:  Adalbertus Prorok, hortulanus, son of Joannes and Thecla nee Tomasiewicz
Mother:  Marianna, daughter of Josephus Pietruszka and Hedvig Kleszyk
Godparents:  Josephus Kasprzyk; Anna Parat; hortulani

Other baptism records spell Marianna's maiden name as Pietrucha.  This is probably the spelling that was on the Platte County marriage record, but the 'u' was mistaken for an 'n'.

Siblings of John are:
Michael, born 20 Aug 1875, Leki Dolne, house 62
Josephus, born 5 Feb 1881, Leki Dolne, house 62
Agnes, born 25 Nov 1883, Leki Dolne, house 62
Anna, born 27 Jul 1886, Leki Dolne, house 62
Andreas, born 13 Jun 1890, Leki Dolne, house 26, died 5 Jan 1902
Stanislaus, born 12 Apr 1894, Leki Dolne, house 62

I have not found a baptism record for Victoria Curulo in the Łęki Górne Parish.  I have not found a marriage record for John's parents in Łęki.  A marriage record for her brother, Jacobus, shows he was born in Zwiernik.  Adalbertus Prorok and Marianna Pietrucha may have married in Zwiernik.

Using the 1920 and 1930 U.S. censuses, I found the following children of John and Victoria:
