My PAPROCKI connection comes from my GALUS ancestry. My grandfather,
Stanislaus GALUS, immigrated to Platte County, Nebraska, USA, in
September 1898. I knew from documents filed in Platte County, that my
grandfather was baptized on 3 March 1880 in the Parish of Łęki
Górne /
Leki Gorne,
district of Pilzno, diocese of Tarnow, Poland. In August 1998 I
discovered that the church records for the Parish of Leki Gorne had
been microfilmed by the Mormon Church. Knowing my grandfather's date
and place of baptism was key to tracking my ancestoral lines.
Stanislaus' baptism record named not only his parents, but also his
grandparents.

Stanislaus, Catholic, son, legitimate
Father: Andreas GALUS son of Joannis and Marianna nee PAPROCKI
Mother: Agnes daughter of Joannis SZTORC and Marianna nee TWOREK
Godparents: Joannis SZTORC, Sophia KULA
Stanislaus's father was Andreas GALUS, son of Joannis GALUS and
Marianna nee PAPROCKI. The next record tracing this line back was the
marriage record of Stanislaus' parents:
Marriage record, LDS microfilm 1898739, item 9,

Bride: Agnes Sztorc, daughter of Joannis and Marianna Tworek, Catholic,
age 17, single
Marriage witnesses: Petrus Sztorc, Adalbertus Miczek
Andreas' age at the time of his marriage was 28, so it was possible to
calculate his approximate birth year as 1848. I was able to locate
Andreas' birth/baptism record:

Father: Joannes son of Adalbertus Galus and Marianna Kotlarz
Mother: Marianna daughter of Adalbertus Paprocki and Hedwigis Micek
Godparents: Martinus Paprocki, Victoria wife of Joannis Storc
Up to this point, these microfilmed records confirmed the information I
had about my grandfather's family. The discovery of Andreas'
birth/baptism record began to uncover data that was unknown heretofore.
Andreas' mother was Marianna, daughter of Adalbertus PAPROCKI and
Hedwigis nee MICEK. Starting with the year of Andreas' birth (1848), I
worked back through the marriage microfilm, looking for Marianna and
Joannes' record. Marianna and Joannes were married in the Leki Parish
on 28 May 1841.

be Hedvigis), Catholic, age 22, widow
Witnesses: Antonius Tomasiewicz, Jacobus Kotlarz
Taking Marianna's age at the time of her marriage, I calculated an
approximate birth year of 1819, but so far I have not been able to
locate a birth/baptism record for her. It was interesting to note that
Marianna, at the age of 22, was widowed. I continued working back
through the marriage records and found that Marianna had first married
Casimirus KEPA:

Witnesses: Stanislaus Kepa and Johannes Kepa, inquilini
Marianna and her first husband, Casimirus KEPA, had two children. A
daughter Francisca was born 5 February 1838 in house 106 in Leki Gorne.

On 2 January 1841 Casimirus KEPA died at the age of 45. A
few months after her husband died, Marianna gave
birth to a son, Joannes Nepomus, on 28 April 1841, in Leki house 106.

One month after her son Joannes KEPA was born, Marianna married Joannes
Cantius GALUS on 28 May 1841. Marianna and Joannes GALUS were the
parents of at least 10 children. Three of them immigrated to Platte
County, Nebraska in the United States. Marianna, their first born,
immigrated in about 1874 with her husband Andreas PAPROCKI, and several
of their children. Sophia married Joseph ROSNO on 2 May 1875 in
Columbus, Platte County, Nebraska. Catharina married Franz / Frank
LACHNIT on 17 November 1877, also in Columbus.
An interesting find is that enumerated with Catharina and her husband
Frank in the Platte County 1880 Nebraska U.S. census was Frank's
mother-in-law:
Galus, Mary, age 65, Mother-in-law, Married,
born Austria, parents born Austria
In the 1885 Nebraska state census for Butler County the following were
enumerated with Frank and Catherine:
Galiz, John, white, male, age 70 (b about
1815), Father, married, helping on farm, born Austria, parents born
Austria
Galiz, Mary, white, female, age 69 (b about 1816), Mother, born
Austria, parents born Austria
I have found no other reference to John and Mary, but it appears that
my great great grandparents may have immigrated to the United States.
The next available U.S. census was 1900 - 15 years later. Both John and
Mary would have been about 85 if they were still living. By this time
Catharina and her family were living in Columbus, Ohio. I have not
found death records for either John or Mary in the Leki Gorne Parish in
Poland.

Based on their ages at the time of this marriage, Adalbert was born
about 1789 and Hedvig was born about 1794. The farther back one goes in
these records, the less information is available to make family
connections. I found the name of Hedwig's father from the baptism
record of their son Adalbertus.
