I grew up in a primarily Polish neighborhood in South Omaha, Nebraska USA. My Grandma and Grandpa GALUS lived next door to me, and three sets of Aunts and Uncles lived within a block and a half from my home. All the neighborhood kids went to the same Catholic grade school. Lots of conversations among the older folks were carried on in Polish. Our children's grade school choir sang many hymns at Mass in Polish.

One of my GALUS first cousins married the "girl next door." Well, actually, she was the girl down the street over on the next block from my cousin. She lived across the street and over a few doors from me in that South Omaha neighborhood. I've known her all my life.

A few years ago, when I was gathering family information for my genealogy, I asked her about her parents. I like to get parents' information on the folks who marry into my family, just to have a more complete picture. Her mother's maiden name was SLAWINSKI. Some time back I borrowed a centennial book of the St. Stanislaus Church in Duncan, Nebraska. In it I found a biography on the Peter Paul SLAWINSKI Family. Turns out that this is the biography of my friend's grandparents.

I extracted the information from the sketch and input it to my genealogy program. Here are some of the facts I found in that biography:

* Peter Paul SLAWINSKI was born in Pilzno, Poland on June 29, 1884.
* Peter was the son of George SLAWINSKI and Catherine MICEK.
* Peter came to the U.S. in 1905 on the S. S. Majj. He came to Columbus, Nebraska, and lived with a relative, Frank MICEK.
* Peter moved to Duncan, Nebraska in 1912 where he lived until his death in 1938.
* Peter married Kathryn OLSUFKA, daughter of John OLSUFKA and Agatha STRAZAS / STARZEC, on January 26, 1910. They were the parents of nine children.
* Peter had one brother, Father Bartholomew SLAWINSKI of Windsor, Ontario, Canada, and two sisters, Ann BANDUR of Poland and Sister M. Prima, O.S.F. of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Peter also had several half-brothers.

In the St. Stanislaus centennial book there is also a biography of Sister Mary Prima. The sketch indicates that Sister M. Prima SLAWINSKI, O.S.F., was born in Lekock Dolnych (Łęki Dolne), Europe, on April 5, 1895. Leki Dolne is adjacent to the Polish village of Leki Gorne, the birthplace of both my Grandparents Stanislaus and Martha KUDRON GALUS.

Armed with Peter and Sister Prima's dates of birth and the names of other siblings, I headed to the Family History Center to check the microfilm records for Leki Gorne and Leki Dolne, Poland.

Following is the information I have extracted thus far for this SLAWINSKI line. There may be more children for each parent, as I am still extracting information on this family.

Joannes SLAWINSKI married Apollonia PODRAZA, (dau of Michael PODRAZA), before 1823. This is based on the earliest birth dates of their children.

Joannes and Apollonia had the following children:

* Marianna, born _____; married Andreas TWARDOWSKI (son of Clementis TWARDOWSKI and Marianna SZCZUR).

* Anna TWARDOWSKI, born 19 Jan 1864, Leki Dolne, Poland, house #26.
* Thomas TWARDOWSKI, born 20 Nov 1879, Leki Dolne, Poland, house #70

* Franciscus SLAWINSKI, bapt 20 July 1823, Leki, Poland, house #8
* Joannes SLAWINSKI, born 13 May 1825, Leki Gorne, Poland, house #183
* Antonius SLAWINSKI, born _____; married Anna BRYG 14 Nov 1843 in Leki, Poland (daughter of Thomas BRYG and Anna TRYBLOWSKI) There were no ages for either Antonius or Anna on their marriage record. House #'s on marriage record: Antonius, #8; Anna, #175.
* Thomas SLAWINSKI, born 28 Nov 1827, Leki Dolne, Poland, house #8. Thomas married Agnetis CHROSTEK, 28 Nov 1843 in Leki, Poland (dau of Joseph CHROSTEK and Agnetis KAWA).

Thomas and Agnetis had the following children:
* Zuzanna Theresia, born 15 Sep 1844, Leki Gorne, Poland, house #98.
* Sophia Stanislas, born 26 Mar 1858, Leki Gorne, Poland, house #95.
* Anna Estora SLAWINSKI, born 9 Jul 1859, Leki Gorne, Poland, house #95. Anna married Bartholomew GALUS (son of Bartholomew GALUS and Francisca KANTOR), 18 Oct 1874 in Leki, Poland. Bartholomew was born 25 May 1846, Leki, Poland. According to the 1900 Federal Census for Butler Twp., Platte County, NE, Bartholomew and Anna immigrated to the U.S. in 1880. Marge's note: The older Bartholomew is my GG Grand Uncle. I have more on this family on my Related GALUS Families page.
* Stanislaus SLAWINSKI, born about 1861. Stanislaus married Agatha STARZEC on 15 Jan 1883 at St. Michael Church in Tarnov, Platte County, Nebraska USA.  Agatha was a daughter of Joannis STARZEC and Catharine nee MALEK.


Stanislaus and Agatha were the parents of:
* Victoria SLAWINSKI was born 25 Sep 1885 in Nebraska. She married Jacob ROSNO about 1901. Jacob was born 16 Jul 1876. Jacob and Victoria were the parents of Helen (b. 9 Jan 1902), Benedict (b. 26 Feb 1904, d. 29 Jan 1926), Ursula (b. 23 Mar 1905, m. Louis GUZAK 7 Jun 1927, d. 29 Dec 1969), Aloysius (b. about 1907), Stanislaus (b. 17 Feb 1909, m. Martha MICEK 6 May 1934, d. 21 Dec 1996).  After Jacob's death in 12 Apr 1912, Victoria married Felix / Phillip TWOREK.  Victoria died 6 Aug  1933 and is buried at St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Duncan, Platte County, Nebraska.
* Marianna SLAWINSKI was born May 1886.  She became Sister Mary Stanisla.
* Stanislaus SLAWINSKI was born Jul 1889.


Stanislaus died about 1889/1891. His widow, Agatha, married John OLSUFKA on 19 October 1891 in Duncan, Platte County, Nebraska.  Agatha and John OLSUFKA were the parents of Catherine OLSUFKA, who married Peter Paul SLAWINSKI.

* Thekla SLAWIINSKI, born about 1863 in Poland.  Thekla married ______ BOROWIAK.  After her first husband's death, Thekla married Joannes PAPROCKI on 24 Nov 1896 in Duncan, Platte County, Nebraska.  Joannes was born 12 Sep 1864 in Łęki Górne, Galicia, Poland.  He was a son of Stanislaus PAPROCKI and Catharina nee GALUS. (Catharina is my first cousin three removed, a daughter of Bartholomew GALUS and Francisca KANTOR, sister of Bartholomew GALUS who married Anna Estora SLAWINSKI. (See above) )


* Adalbertus SLAWINSKI, born 17 Mar 1830, Leki Dolne, Poland, house #8. Adalbertus married Rosalia KUKLA before 3 Dec 1852 (daughter of Adalbertus KUKLA and Agnetis WOJTYLA).

Adalbertus and Rosalia had the following children:
* Tomas/Thomas SLAWINSKI, born 3 Dec 1852, Leki Dolne, Poland, house #8; died 4 Mar 1930. Thomas married Tecla URYIAZ (dau of Stanislaus URYIAZ and Sophia BANDOR).

* Anna Pelgia, born 12 Mar 1888, Leki Dolne, Poland, house #128; died 6 Jan 1891.

* Joannes SLAWINSKI, born 8 Dec 1854, Leki Gorne, Poland, house #8; died 8 Dec 1954.

Under Sophia's name on her baptism record is a "+". When there is a cross under a name there is usually a date after it which is the date of death. There was no date noted here.
