John L. Sokol Sr.

John Louis Sokol Sr., 97, of Columbus Manor, died Tuesday at Columbus community Hospital in Columbus.

Services are at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Bonaventure church in Columbus, with Rev. Russ Monzu officiating. Burial is in the parish cemetery.

Visitation is after 2 p.m. Friday at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus. A 7:30 p.m. rosary will be recited Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. Sokol was born Oct. 18, 18861, at Pilsno, Poland, the son of Louis and Anna Kudron Sokol. He attended Platte County rural schools and married Tillie Cieloha. Following her death he married Minnie M. Czarnick April 18, 1942, at Columbus.

Mr. Sokol was a resident of Platte County all of his life. He was a retired carman of Union Pacific Railroad. Mr. Sokol was a member of St. Bonaventure Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Mary Lou Loseke and Barbara (Mrs. DeWayne) Nicolas, both of Columbus; a son, John L. Jr. of Gerald, Mo.; eight grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews, including Helen Weisenfluh of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his wives, Tillie and Minnie, two sons, a stepson, three grandchildren, a brother and a sister.

Services for Mrs. Minnie (John) Sokol, 74, of 2821 10th Street, will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Bonaventure Catholic church with Rev. Russ Monzu, O.F.M. officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Wednesday at the McKown Funeral Home, with a rosary to be recited at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Sokol was born Feb. 28, 1908, in Fullerton, the daughter of Peter and Maryanna Jarecki Czarnik. She was married to Julius Kielisek, and after his death, she married John Sokol on April 18, 1942 in Columbus.

Mrs. Sokol lived all her life in Columbus, and was a member of St. Bonaventure Catholic church. She died Monday at the Mercy Care Center in Omaha following a five-month illness.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Mary Lou Loseke and Mrs. Barbara (DeWayne) Nicholas, both of Columbus; one son, John L., Jr. of Gerald, Mo.; three sisters, Mrs. Vera (Stanley) Cheloha of Omaha and Mrs. Ann (Alvin) Tworek and Mrs. Amelia Irwin, both of Columbus; one brother, Charles Czarnik of Fullerton; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, two sons, three grandchildren and two sisters.
