My Great Grandaunt, Catherine GALUS, married Franz / Frank LACHNIT. I orginally noted here that Franz and Joseph were brother's based on undocumented references that I found early in my research.  However, after doing my own research, I believe that Franz and Joseph were not related.  Joseph was a son of Franz and Amelia BRAUNER LACHNIT. Mary was the daughter of John and Antonia POLLAHOFSKI HOLLATZ. Joseph and Mary were married 3 Nov 1891 in Humphrey, Platte County, Nebraska. They were the parents of Cyril LACHNIT listed above.

See my page LACHNIT Family Puzzle for information I have gathered about the Nebraska LACHNITs.

Both Mary Ann and Katharina (Katie) were sisters of Marge's grandmother, Julia ZACH THOMAS, daughters of Ignatz and Anna Mary BRAUN ZACH. According to my mother, Mary "went to work for a cousin Ed Wieser. His wife died giving birth. Mary went to live with the Wiesers. He had three sons and a daughter to raise. They were farmers. Lived near St. Marys, Nebraska. Later they moved to Rosholt, South Dakota. She lived with them until all the children were married. Then moved back to Humphrey, Nebraska. She lived with two of her sisters (Rose & Catherine). Mary died in Humphrey, Nebraska. (Lived with a Mrs. Albright after her sister Rose died.)" Mom said about Katharina: "Catherine never married or left home. She took care of her parents in their old age on the old homestead. Her father was blind the last 20 years of his life.... After her father's death she lived with [her sister] Rose. After Rose's death, Catherine went to live with her youngest sister, Angela Zach Fehringer, in Peetz, Colorado, where she died at the age of 95 years."
