We visited the Chester County Historical Society Library in West Chester, PA, again in July 2000. We found Sarah KEELEY BROWNBACK's obituary. Sarah is Bruce's GG Grandmother, wife of Jesse BROWNBACK. The obituary, dated 28 Jun 1898, indicates that Sarah died at the home of her son Maris BROWNBACK. She was 81 years old at the time of her death. The obituary states that Sarah was buried at Brownback's Cemetery. Through the LDS microfilm 1294884, Chester County East Coventry, Brownback Cemetery extract, we found both Jesse and Sarah KEELEY BROWNBACK were buried at Brownback's cemetery. In October 2000 Bruce was back in New Jersey for his high school reunion. Bruce and his Mother visited Brownback's and located the graves of Jesse and Sarah. We have since photographed several other tombstones at Brownback's, which can be seen at Brownback's Cemetery Tombstones |

We found a newspaper clipping for the marriage of Sarah E. BROWNBACK, daughter of Maris and Clara BROWNBACK. The clipping names Sarah's husband as "Dr. Charles Albion Carmelia, only son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Carmelia." However, in Clara BENNER BROWNBACK's obituary, it lists one of the survivors as "Sarah, wife of Dr. F. A. Carmelia, of Marcus Hook...." We don't know yet if the Francis A. Carmelia, M.D. listed on this monument is the husband of Sarah BROWNBACK CARMELIA. Still trying to sort out the discrepancies. | |
