New research has shown that the Leamings, orginally thought to be from Leamington, Warwickshire, England, actually were from county Yorkshire. In the late 1600's, Christopher Leaming emigrated and settled in Cape May, New Jersey where the principal whaling grounds were. Many descendants of Christopher remained in Cape May, including his grandson, Aaron the second, who published his father's and uncle's diaries in conjunction with his own, which contains valuable genealogical information. My branch of the family stemming from Christopher's son, Jeremiah, removed to Connecticut, first to Guilford, later to Middleton, Durham and Farmington.
