My Brewster line does NOT descend from William Brewster of the Mayflower, but rather from emigrant, Francis Brewster of New Haven, CT, whose father was the rent collector at Bristol Castle in co. Somerset, England. Francis's son, Nathaniel Brewster graduated from Harvard College with a baccalaureate degree in theology. He returned to England to enter the ministry. After the Restoration of 1660, Brewster and fellow dissenting ministers fled to the colonies and he settled on Long Island in the town of Brookhaven. Nathaniel married Sarah Ludlow, daughter of the first Assistant Governor of Connecticut, Roger Ludlow. A sketch of the Brewster House appears at the Three Village Historical Society Candlelight Tour web site as well as a Photograph of the house. |
