Esther Holt, some years ago, compiled a book about most of these Adams Co. IL Gallimore settlers, including a bit about the murder of a John Gallimore later in Pueblo. The murdered John(Monroe) Gallimore was the son of George and Nancy. She spoke of the tradedy: He was "beaten to death with a revolver one night as he was going home from Denver.""NOTE" John's death date may be a typographical error as further information has been found that John was alive and well in 1880 census living with his brother Frank and sister-law Princess.

My records indicate that Nancy was married in 1863 not 1859. I cannot prove either except that I do have a wedding photo, tintype, and their dress is of the early 1860's. I have checked this out in two libraries. Nancy and Frederick married in the west, it was sometimes said Carson City, Nevada and other times San Jose, CA. I have foud a Nevada City, CA that is between the two, and I am thinking it is possible this is the actual place. There are no marriage records for Nevada for the time period and Santa Clara Co. CA has no record of this marriage. F.O. Graves was the suttler for Ft. clark. They are listed in the NM census for 1870, and in the 1880 census of the town of Brackett as it was called then. In 1882 the family moved to San Antonio. I have the deed to property purchased then and know the location. They ran a corner store and lived next door. F.O. was involved with mule teams hipping goods to west TX and on. Nancy Angeline died in 1889-NOT 1888 as you have. I have the record from St. Marks Episcopal church from which the burial was held. Apr. is the correct month, I do not have the family page up in front of me to recheck your date. She died of consumption which she had had when young according to family information. That was the reason why she went west. I have yet to figure out where she met her husband and who went that far west with her.
It is fairly obvious that you got your info. on the next generation from either Esther's book or Thomas B. Nelson's. Eva Lillian married Victor Eugene Vaughan on Dec. 2, 1889-- I never heard of a Silas Vaughen until I read this book!!! They had 3 children--Florence Eugenia Vaughan--b. Jan 1891, Victor Graves Vaughan--b. Mar 11, 1894, Miriam Amelia Kate Vaughan, b. Sept 24, 1898, d. Sept 1905 of diphtheria. Clara Nancy Graves married Emil Szafir in 1898. He was a widower with 5 children. They had none of their own. My grandmother, Eva Lillian Graves was born in San Jose, CA on June 28, 1864, They traveled around Cape Horn in 1866 to visit his family in New York City. I have a letter from Nancy to her sister, Amanda Caroline--complete with envelope--addressed to Mrs.. Charles Young, Central City, Colorado Territory. It tells the name of the ship, and where to write to them in NYC.
Eva's younger sister, Clara Nancy Graves was born in Sept. 1879 in Elizabethtown, N.M. They moved to Brackettville, TX. some time in the early to mid 1870's.
My understanding was that George Gallemore & family went to Illinois at the same time as William Alfred and family. On what do you base your statement that it was after 1840? You comment on a land transaction in 1841, I believe. I know Nancy A. Gallemore was born in Illinois. I am not sure about Amanda nor Lucinda. If I can find them in a census or more that one,I can be sure of the state.
As far as Nancy Medlin Gallemore--yes she went to Colorado, and she is in Arapahoe Co. in the 1870 census as is her son John Monroe who was supposed to have been killed in April, 1870, He also shows up in the 1880 census, and without further investigation, I feel certain the accident, assault/murder took place that year. Another researcher of these records has come to the same conclusion. I have only been doing genealogy for about 6 years, but I had a good teacher, and I KNOW sources are important. I do not necessarily agree with what you have published as to William Alfred's ancestry. I have a differing viewpoint as "our" William was married to Mary Sanders and there is noone by that name in any of your information. If only they had not had so many John's James's & Williams our tasks might have been simpler.
