I believe I am probably a descendent of the William Moore/Gallimore who married Sarah Grimmett in 1787 in Franklin Co, VA. (Actually there is a big hole in my proof between my ggg grandfather, William Moore of Jefferson Co, IL and William Sr(?) and Sarah Grimmet, who are reported by many to be his parents. I have so far not been able to prove the relationship, but many independent things point to it being correct.)
I have researched Henry and Franklin County Tax records and there is little doubt that the name Moore, More and Gallimore was used interchangeably in them. Here is what I found. The following records are all instances of More/Moore or Gall(i)(e)(a)more in the personal property records:

After 1790 the name Gallimore is not mentioned again (I have the Moore data through 1800, though, if anyone is interested).
Was it just an aberration of the person recording the taxes to mix the names Moore and Gallimore? Abraham Gallimore's pension records tend to suggest not: although he is clearly listed as Gallimore, his son Alexander signed his name More. And the marriage record of my supposed gggg grandparents is apparently recorded under More, Moore AND Gallimore. If I do in fact
descend from William Moore and Sarah Grimmett, I think it more than likely that I also have some relationship to the Gallimores.
William and Sarah had the following children:
Job (1788)
Elizabeth (1790)
Lucy (1792)
Milly (1794)
Silas (1797)
Phoebe (1799)
Peter (1801)
Laban (1803)
Jane (1805)
William (1807)
Harden (1809).
They moved to Barren County, KY about 1806. Disappointingly, except for Jane, there doesn't appear to be a familiar Gallimore name in them: no Abraham, Jesse, or the Samuel mentioned by many on this list. I also have no evidence that the family ever used the name Gallimore again after leaving Virginia.
