CLARK-CAMPAIGN MAILING LIST
help in your research in Clark County Ohio

A little history
Most of the area that is now Clark County was part of Champaign County between 1805 and 1818.  Springfield was once considered as a county seat of Champaign County, but Urbana was selected to be the center of the newly formed Champaign County in 1805.  Springfield did become a county seat when Clark County was formed in 1818.  Since many families had members in both counties, this mail list covers both counties

How it works
Once you are subscribed to the list, you send an email to the posting address below, and a copy is sent to every subscriber to the list, usually about 400 people.  Yes, you send a single email, and it goes to 400 people.  What a great way to find a new relative, learn about the counties, or offer information to others.  (You'll also receive a copy of your post.)  You can also search the mail list archives for messages that were posted before you joined the list.  There are a few rules:

(Be sure to turn OFF your automatic signature file when sending either of the above commands to the RootsWeb mailing list server.  These days it's a good idea to add the posting address to your email address book to help prevent your ISP from considering the incoming messages spam.)  The problem with signature files is that they usually contain words that could be a surname or perhaps many surnames that aren't related to Clark or Champaign County.  As all posts to the list are retained in the archives, those words or names become "hits" when someone searches the archives, but the hits will be on a signature line, not anything related to the surname the researcher was looking for.
