Children of Moses and Elizabeth Johnson Sweeney Genealogy

This page added 10/13/99

So far as I know, Moses was born in 1734 in Antrim, Ireland, and originally came from Donegal.  He and his father came to America around 1750.  From there after is explained on the first page.
If there is not a link to your ancestor, one will be added.  Soon.  If you let me know you would like to be next, I'll start a list.

If you click on the link of a Child you will be taken to another page.  If you click on the spouse it will take you to a short blurb at the bottom of this page, on that family

SPOUSES OF THESE CHILDREN

The Shacklefords

Wife of Charles Sweeney, Frances Shackelford, was of the line of John Shackelford, baptized Old Alrosford, December 23, 1647, and his son Roger who was baptized in Old Alresford, England , April 23rd, 1629.  Roger's brothers were Charles, Christopher and Ingram.  Roger was brought to the VA Colony by Edward Palmer, who received a grant of land of 400 acres in Gloucester County, VA for the transportation of eight persons, including Roger.

The Slattans

Husband of Mary Sweeney was Tyre Slatton.  Mary was a twin to Joseph.  They were the firstborn of Moses and Elizabeth's.  Listed on the Garrard County Tax list, next to Tyre, is a Joseph Slatton, married to Margaret Allen, sister of Sarah wife of Job, Mary's brother.

The Childers

Husband of Nancy Sweeney, Goldsby Childers was born January 1, 1756.  He served in the Revolutionary War under Captain William McKee in the 12th VA Regiment.

The Allens

Sarah Allen's lines reach back to Robert Allen b. 1695 of Armagh VA and his wife Sarah Cathey of Atrim, Ulster, Ireland: she the daughter of Alexander Cathey.  Sarah's mother was Margaret Green (Wahab).  The Wahab (Wohoad) name can be traced back to Ireland 1723.  This information was taken from the Family History Center, and also states that in reference notes, Samuel Allen m. Isodora Sweeney of Casey County Nov. 18, 1740.  If anyone has anything on this I am most curious.

The McCormacks

Patsy Sweeney married Daniel McCormack, son of Daniel and Anne McCormack.  This family was living in Lincoln County, KY when the first tax list was compiled there in 1787.  Patsy and Daniel are buried at the McCormack Christian Church Cemetery, thought they have no monuments engraved with their dates.

The Edwards

Sarah Edwards second wife of Job was probably the aunt of Jesse Edwards, who married Charles son Joel
The Edwards were Virginians, and from what I have learned they thought themselves better than any other English Immegrants.  If anyone knows ought of the Virginians and would like to add a comment or article here, I would most welcome it!
