The Mississippi 1885 Atlas and Gazetteer
RESEARCH NOTES

The information on this site was obtained from an original 1885 edition of Cram's Unrivaled Family Atlas of the World. The lists of post offices, villages, towns, cities and counties were scanned from the index of the original atlas. Located on the list below are the names of the places, counties of location, section of the county where the place is located and the populations of the places. Locations of county courthouses are denoted by a bold typeface and a dot preceding the name represents an express post office. Place names italicized represent places with no post office. Below the alphabetical links section on the main page of this site, is a map section. The Mississippi map was scanned from the atlas and then sectioned into eleven regional maps for easy presentation on this site. After finding a place in the list, the appropriate map can be consulted.
