THE WILLIAM WARD GENEALOGY

This is a History of the Descendants of William Ward of Sudbury, MA, 1638-1925 by Charles Martyn, 1925, published by Artemas Ward.

The data from the original book which contained 10,746 descendants has been expanded to now include over 13,000 descendants. Over 20,000, including spouses and their parents. There are more details in the notes under William Ward, born 1603.

Here is the first sixty or so pages from THE WILLIAM WARD GENEALOGY It details the emigration from England and life in New England in the 17th century.

A brief biography of Artemas Ward, 1848 - 1925, the publisher.

Perhaps the most famous descendant of William Ward was General Artemas Ward, often referred to as the first Commander-in-Chief of the American Revolution.

Included in the above database are many SHATTUCKs. I descend from a long line, starting with my fourth great grandmother, Electa SHATTUCK. It begins six generations earlier with William SHATTUCK, who came to New England in the early 1600's.CLICK HERE for an interesting excerpt from a book by Lemuel SHATTUCK, written in 1855, about the origins of the name and its various spellings.

SHATTUCK DATABASE CONTRIBUTED BY JOANNA CURTIS

This excellent work by Joanna, with a tiny bit of computer input by myself, is a well researched effort to find the SHATTUCK ancestors of her mother-in-law, Lottie Bernice SHATTUCK. A small part of this work is duplicated in my database above since I descend from the same family. I am also adding more individuals as time allows, and they become available from other sources.

In this database of over 12,500 persons there are over 3000 SHATTUCKs, 339 WRIGHTs, 191 BLOODs, 195 PARKERs, 167 LAWRENCEs, 117 GILSONs, 124 BROWNs and hundreds of other surnames. They are followed back to the early 1600's, mainly in New England.

For more details and sources, or to contribute more data or corrections, contact either Joanna Curtis at [email protected] or myself at [email protected]

You might want to check out the SHATTUCK MAILING LIST. There, you can browse or search the message archives, and sign up to be a subscriber and post your queries, if you wish.

There is also a great resource at RootsWeb to search for data on a Surname. You can try the surname SHATTUCK, HERE

"UNLINKED SHATTUCKS" DATABASE BY CHARLES HENRY SHATTUCK III

This is an ongoing project, suggested by Chuck, which I think will be a valuable contribution in our SHATTUCK research. Chuck recently started doing a lot of research on the net and elsewhere. Much of the data he has found fills gaps in our main SHATTUCK dB.

However, there are many other SHATTUCKs who remain unconnected or homeless. What to do with these people so they are not forgotten?

Put them on line, of course! With notes and sources so future researchers will not have to re-research.

If you find any SHATTUCKs during your research who are not in either database, I encourage you to include them.

Please contact me if you can link to the original immigrant, William SHATTUCK, born about 1622; if you can link any of our "forgotten" SHATTUCKs in your tree; also, if you have evidence that your SHATTUCKs are not related to our original William SHATTUCK. It appears that the vast majority of SHATTUCKs in North America are related.

We include it with a large database of "William Ward born abt 1603" descendants we have shared widely including within GENSERV. Also take a look at GENDEX for another excellent way of sharing our data. A big "thank you" to all those who have provided critical links in my family tree, often with very well documented sources.
