Levi Troutman (1813) was the son of George Troutman (c1782) and Margaret Sifford.

FIFTH GENERATION

1. Levi TROUTMAN was born on 26 Nov 1813 in , Cabarrus, NC. He was baptized on 7 Apr 1814 in Organ Lutheran, Rowan, NC. He died between 1840 and 1850 in , Cabarrus, NC. He was married to Delilah CLARKE (daughter of John CLARKE and Catherine) on 8 May 1833 in , Cabarrus, NC. Delilah CLARKE was born about 1814 in , Cabarrus, NC. Levi TROUTMAN and Delilah CLARKE had the following children:

The family of Levi Troutman (1813) is one of the few "dead-end" branches of the North Carolina Troutman family. All of Levi's children died without children of their own.

Levi (1813) has sometimes been confused with a "Lewis Troutman" and sometimes listed as his brother. I believe Levi and Lewis were one and the same. Here is every known record for both Levi (1813) and "Lewis":

Those are all the records I know of on Levi Troutman (1813) and his wife, Delilah Clarke.

Note that when Bernard Cruse transcribed the Organ Lutheran Baptism records, he had difficulty with Levi's name in Levi's 1813 baptismal record. He wrote what it looked like in the original record and put "Lewis?" beside that in parentheses. To me, it looks like "Levy" which is can be spelling variation of Levi. When "Lewis Troutman" had his son George Washington Troutman (1834) baptized in 1834, with his father George (c1782) as sponsor, this was probably also Levi Troutman (1813). It should be noted that the two baptismal records above are the only records in North Carolina before 1850 for a Lewis Troutman. There are absolutely no civil records for a Lewis Troutman. If there was a Lewis Troutman, where is his marriage record and where was his widow? I believe there never was a Lewis Troutman, that the two instances of his name are both transcription errors for Levi Troutman (1813). Furthermore, the baptismal record for George Washington Troutman (1834) suggests that "Lewis Troutman" was the son of George Troutman, but all the males in the household of George (c1782) in the 1830 Census are accounted for.

Little is known about Levi Troutman (1813). He was with the family of his father, George Troutman (c1782), in the 1830 Census of Cabarrus. He married Delilah Clarke in Cabarrus, marriage bond dated 8 May 1833. First child, George Washington Troutman, was born 16 Feb 1834. Son William was born 30 Apr 1836, and son Alexander was born 21 July 1838. Note that Alexander was baptized as "Sandy" Troutman; Sandy was a common nickname for Alexander. On 13 Oct 1838, Delilah (Clarke) Troutman was both baptized and confirmed at Organ Lutheran Church. Obviously, with a name like Clarke, she was not born a Lutheran.

Levi Troutman (1813) was missed in the 1840 Census of Cabarrus, like most of the Troutman families living in Cabarrus at that time. In Cabarrus court records for July 1840, he acted as security for the estate of Nicholas Rimer. The Rimers were known neighbors of George Troutman (c1782), whose land in Cabarrus was near the present-day town of Rimer. This July 1840 court record is the last known record of Levi Troutman (1813). He apparently died between 1840 and the 1850 Census. His two oldest children, George Washington (1834) and William (1836) both also died before the 1850 Census.

Levi's widow, Delilah, and his last surviving child, Alexander (1838), went to live with Delilah's parents, John and Catherine (maiden name unknown) Clarke, where they were for the 1850 Census. Note that also living in this household was Robert S. Martin. Robert S. Martin had married L. C. Clarke on 2 Sep 1844 in Cabarrus. L. C. Clarke was apparently another daughter of John annd Catherine Clarke. The child, John F. Martin, age 2 in 1850, was apparently the child of Robert and L. C. (Clarke) Martin. On 24 Nov 1853, Delilah (Clarke) Troutman, widow of Levi Troutman (1813), married Robert S. Martin, who was the widower of Delilah's sister.

By 1860, Delilah (Clarke) Troutman Martin was living in Mecklenburg County. Although the 1860 Census does not list marital status, the enumerator actually wrote "widow farming." Delilah had outlived her second husband, Robert S. Martin. Alexander Troutman (1838) was certainly dead by the 1860 Census. Had he been alive, he would probably have been with his widowed mother. Also, George Troutman (c1782) signed his will in Cabarrus on 21 Mar 1860 in which he named his wife, his living children, and a granddaughter who was the daughter of George's deceased daughter, Mary Magdalene (Troutman) Weaver (1820). If George Troutman (c1782) had had another grandchild alive who was the child of one of his deceased children, he would have listed that grandchild in his will.

Thus, there are no living descendents of Levi Troutman (1813). All of his descendents were dead by 1860.
