Images of the family of Robert Caldwell Womack (1854 - 1933) and his wife, Mary Elizabeth Hudgins (1869 - 1910)
Daniel J. Hudgins married first a woman named "V. A." Besides her initials, all we know is she was born about 1843 in GA, possibly Gwinnett County. She is with Daniel in the 1870 Census of Gwinnett Co, GA. Daniel and V. A. had 1 known child, Mary Elizabeth Hudgins Womack (6 Dec 1869 - 13 Feb 1910). The V in "V. A." probably stood for Virginia, Victoria, or Veronica. Other V names for girls, such as Violet, Viola, and Velma, did not become popular until the late 1800s.
Next, Daniel J. Hudgins married Elimira Paralee Windham on 16 Sep 1873 in Yell Co, AR. This is recorded as "David Hudgins to Elmira Windham", but the names David and Daniel are easy to confuse in old handwritten records. Need to see the original record. Daniel and Elmira had six known children - Ansel Aaron Hudgins (6 Jul 1876 - 1905), Andrew D. Hudgins (Jan 1879 - ?), Marcus C. "Mark" Hudgins (Aug 1880 - 1956), Ciddy V. Hudgins Foster (Jul 1882 - 1925), Truly Lloyd Hudgins (29 Apr 1886 - Aug 1966), and Lewis N. Hudgins (Jun 1888 - ?). All but Marcus were born in Arkansas, probably Yell County. Marcus Hudgins was born in Mississippi, probably Alcorn County. Three of these Hudgins siblings married three Foster siblings. Ansel married Cora Foster, Ciddy married John Foster, and Marcus married Dora Foster Grizzle.
Ansel Aaron Hudgins, Marcus "Mark" Hudgins, Ciddy V. Hudgins Foster, and Mary Elizabeth Hudgins Womack are all buried at Petillo Hill Cemetery in Yell Co, AR. These cemetery records are transcribed here: http://bethg.shutdown.com/yell/ypetillo.html. Strangely, Ansel Aaron Hudgins and wis wife Cora have the surname "Hutchinson" on their tombstones, although there is note saying Ansel was the son of Daniel and Paralee Windham. Need to visit the cemetery and see the actual tombstones.
