What follows are analyses of the early censuses for John Bushart, his son, Jacob Bushart, Sr., and the descendants of Jacob Bushart, Sr.. These are basically educated guesses as to who people were, since only the name of the household head was given, followed by numbers of people in varios categories of age and gender.

Census Categories 1790-1840

1790 Census - 5 Categories:
1 White Males 16 and older
2 White Males 0-15
3 White Females

1820 Census - 13 Categories

12 Foreigners Not Naturalized
13 Number Engaged in Agriculture
Note: There are other categories, one for persons engaged in commerce, one for
persons engaged in manufacturing, and several for slaves, in categories of age and
gender. As our ancestors were mostly farmers, those not engaged in agriculture are
exceptions, and are noted as such. If they had slaves, that is also noted. Also
note that categories #3 and #4 above overlap.

1830 and 1840 Censuses - 26 Categories
1 White Males 0-4
2 White Males 5-9
3 White Males 10-14
4 White Males 15-19
5 White Males 20-29
6 White Males 30-39
7 White Males 40-49
8 White Males 50-59
9 White Males 60-69
10 White Males 70-79
11 White Males 80-89
12 White Males 90-99
13 White Males 100 and older
Categories 14-26 are for white females in the same age categories. There are also
categories for slaves, which I have noted if there were any in that household.

This county's census for 1820 was lost. The 1850 Census indicates that
the Daniel Ridenhour family was in Montgomery Co, NC in 1820. Even though
there was was no census record, I have still attempted to show the
composition of the Ridenhour family.
