   New Year's Day.  Sarah Schenck was here helping us receive calls.  We had 75 
   calls.  Had a very nice time.  John Bergen, Abe Wyckoff, John VanDerveer & 
   John Suydam spent the evening here.  Sarah Schenck & I retired about 3 
   o'clock. A. Anna was here all day.

   Quite stormy.  Charlie D.B.V. called here.  Pa & Ma went to the village.  9 
   o'clock.

   Clear.  We went to S.S.  we rode to S.S.  John Bergen & Abe Wyckoff, John 
   Eldert, Tom Napier & Frank Lott spent the evening here.  Sarah Schenck & I 
   staid up until 3 o'clock.

   Rather stormy.  We had some company in the evening.  Anna & Phebe VanSiclen & 
   Charlie D., Mary Lib. & Charlie, John Bergen, Abe Wyckoff, John Suydam & John 
   Vanderveer & Foster Burtis were here.  We had a splendid time. 3 o'clock for 
   Sarah & I.

   Clear.  Abe Wyckoff came here & took me out sleigh riding.  Abe Wyckoff 
   stayed here to supper.  Pa & Ma went to the Nite Society.  11 o'clock.

   Clear.  Ma spent the evening to Mrs. Rattu's.  10 o'clock.

   Clear.  Grandma went to U. Abie Stockholm's.  He is very sick.  Annie Came 
   home.  9 o'clock.

   Clear.  I did not go to Church or S.S. as I have a bad cold.  Abe Wyckoff, 
   Frank Lott & Johnnie Suydam spent the evening here.  Broke the rocking chair.

   Had a snow storm.  Annie & I received an invitation to a surprise party up 
   the road 9 o'clock.

   I went to a sociable at Mart. VanSiclen's with Frank Lott, had a very nice 
   time.  Mart. came after Annie.  Had a nice sleigh ride.  4 o'clock.
1/20
   Clear & cold.  Abe Wyckoff came here and took me out sleigh riding.  We went 
   to Remsen's.  Annie went with Johnnie Suydam.  2 o'clock.
1/21
   Quite pleasant.  Annie & Johnnie Suydam, myself & Abe Wyckoff went to a New 
   Lots sociable at P. W. Vanderveer's.  Had a very nice time.  Went in sleighs. 
    Arrived at home 3 1/2 o'clock.

   Clear.  I am very tired & sleepy.  I took a sleigh ride over to Mary Lib.'s & 
   she came home with me & staid the night.  10 o'clock.
1/23
   Clear.  Mary Lib. went home in the morning.  Pa & Ma went to Grandpa's in the 
   morning & to Mrs. Schoonmaker's in the evening.  Aunt Anna left the children 
   here & she staid here all night.  1 o'clock.
1/24
   Snow in the afternoon & rain in the evening.  I went to Church in the 
   morning, did not go to S.S.  Frank Lott & Mart. VanSiclen were here in the 
   evening.  12 1/2 o'clock.
1/25
   Quite pleasant.  Frank Lott took me to a calico party at Laura Brinkerhoff's. 
    We had quite a nice time.  1 1/2 o'clock.
1/26
   Clear.  Grandma came home from U. Abe Stockholm.  Quite busy all day. 9 
   o'clock.
1/27
   Clear.  We had "A Surprise Sociable" although it was not a complete surprise, 
   but we all had a first class time.  There were about 60 here.  Abe Wyckoff 
   waited on me.  Lib. Kolyer staid here & A. Anna & the children staid.  They 
   kept it up until 4 1/2 o'clock.

   Rather stormy.  We all feel rather tired & sleepy.  Nevertheless, we are 
   noisy enough.  Charlie D. called here.  A. Anna went home.  Johnnie Suydam & 
   Foster Burtis rode past here twice, had a little chat.  Went to bed 7 1/2 
   o'clock for a variety.

   Rather cloudy & stormy.  Had quite a snoe storm.  Staid at home all day.  9 
   o'clock.

   Very pleasant.  George Way came here in the afternoon & took Lib. Kolyer out 
   sleighing.  We all went to A. Anna's & spent the evening.  Johnnie Suydam 
   came there after Annie & took her sleighing.  12 o'clock.
1/31
   Clear in the morning but snowed fearfully in the evening.  I did not go to 
   Church.  A. Anna brought the children here.  We all went to S.S. the first 
   time I have been in some time.  Johnnie Suydam was here in the evening all 
   alone for a variety.  12 o'clock.

   Pleasant.  Pa went to Brooklyn.  Minnie VanSlyke spent the day here.  Abe 
   Wyckoff came here in the evening, Lib. & I took a sleigh ride.  We went to 
   Lane's, had a gay ride.  We saw John Bergen & Sarah Schenck.  Abe asked me to 
   go to Mary Lib.'s party & he gave me a philopine present of a large bottle of 
   cologne, very nice & sweet.  1 1/2 o'clock.

   Clear.  Pa & Ma & Elouise went to New Utrecht.  Lib. Kolyer went home.  I 
   wrote a letter to A Sarah.  Frank Lott & Mart. VanSiclen came here & took 
   Annie & I out sleigh riding.  We went to Remsen's.  2 o'clock.  Frank gave me 
   a philopine present of a handsome book, in a box & last night Abe gave me a 
   bottle of cologne, so I think I have fared pretty well lately.  2 1/2 
   o'clock.

   Rained all day.  Pa went to market.  8 1/2 o'clock.

   A dreadful cold day.  We all staid in the house all day.  The Mite Society  
   at Mr. VanSlyke's, but it was too cold to go.  Tom Callister called here.
   9 o'clock.

   Quite pleasant, but very cold yet.  We commenced to quilt my delaine (brick) 
   quilt.  9 o'clock.

   Clear & cold.  In the afternoon Pa & Ma went to Grandpa's & came back in the 
   evening.  9 1/2 o'clock.

   Very cold.  I went to Church in the morning, but we did not go to S.S. as it 
   is bad walking.  Abe Wyckoff & Johnnie Eldert spent the evening here.  
   Johnnie Suydam came here after Abe.  Abe asked me to go to a temperence 
   lecture Thursday night in the Methodist Church.  12 o'clock.
2/8
   Rather snowy, but it did not amount to anything.  Pa & Ma went to the village 
   & they called on U. John D.B.V.  9 o'clock.
2/9
   Dreadful cold & windy.  Pa, Ma, Annie Sarah & myself spent the evening at 
   Harmy Stockholm's.  They had a small company & we had a very nice time.  12 
   1/2 o'clock.
2/10
   Quite pleasant.  Pa & Ma went to the village.  Annie got a postal card.  9 
   o'clock.
2/11
   Very stormy all day, but cleared off towards night.  Ma went to U. Ike's all 
   day.  Abe Wyckoff came here & spent the evening.  I was going to a lecture 
   with him, but it was too stormy.  Johnnie Suydam was going to take Annie, but 
   he did not come at all.  Abe staid until 12 o'clock.
2/12
   Clear & cold.  Today is Jimmy's 6th birthday.  Johnnie Suydam came here & 
   took Annie to a lecture at Queens.  10 o'clock.
2/13
   Very pleasant.  Pa & Ma went to Brooklyn.  Uncle Abe came here after Annie & 
   I to go there to help write invitations for Gertie L's surprise.  Mary Lib. 
   staid there all night with us.  11 1/2 o'clock.
2/14
   Clear & cold.  Uncle Abe brought us home in the morning.  I did not go to 
   Church but I went to S.S..  We met Abe Wyckoff & Frank Lott on the road.  Had 
   a little chat & Frank caught me philopena.  Jerry Lott & Jake Conover came 
   here in the afternoon.  They staid in the evening until 11 o'clock.  11 1/2 
   o'clock.
2/15
   Clear.  Ma, Annie & I & A. Anna went to Uncle Ike's to help make cake &c.  
   Annie & I staid all night.  Frank Lott was there in the evening.  He came 
   here first.  He asked me to go to Mary Lib.'s party with him, but I was 
   engaged so he asked me to go to Etta Lott's party, if they have one.  11 
   o'clock.
2/16
   Clear.  Charlie brought us home in the afternoon.  I received a handsome 
   valentine.  9 1/2 o'clock.
2/17
   Clear.  Today is the day on which Uncle Ike's wonderful party is to come off. 
    Ma went over in the morning & the rest of us went in the evening.  I went 
    with Abe Wyckoff & Annie with Johnnie Suydam.  We had a splendid time.  I 
    danced nearly every set.  I danced with Abe 5 times.  Abe asked me to go to 
    Harmy's "Surprise" with him next week & Frank Lott asked me, but he was too 
    late again.  I eat a philopena with Abe W. & Uncle Gabe.  We arrived at home 
    about 4 o'clock.  Annie & I each got a comic valentine.  Mine is "You 
    Beauty".  4 1/2 o'clock.
2/18
   Very pleasant.  I feel rather stale after the party last night.  Charlie D. 
   called here in the afternoon.  Pa & Ma went to the Mite Society at Mrs. 
   Purdy's.  I got a comic valentine last night.  10 1/2 o'clock.
2/19
   Snowed a little, but not to amount to any thing.  Pa, Ma & Elouise went to 
   the village.  9 1/2 o'clock.
2/20
   Rain all day.  In the morning Pa & Ma went down to Uncle Jim Lott's & staid 
   all day.  As old Mrs. Gulick is very low, Grandma has been there staying.  
   Mrs. Gulick is dead.  9 1/2 o'clock.
2/21
   Very pleasant.  I went to Church in the morning.  I went to S.S., both of my 
   scholars were there.  I have only Martie & Dadie now.  Uncle Abe took the 
   others.  Theodore Lawrence, Frank Lott & Steve Lott spent the evening here.  
   Charlie D. & Addie S. called here on their way to Phebe V.S.'s.  12 o'clock.
2/22
   Pleasant.  Pa, Ma & Grandma went to the funeral of old Mrs. Gulick at A. Kate 
   Lott's.  Abe Wyckoff spent the evening here.  1 o'clock.
2/23
   Clear & quite warm.  Ma & myself went to the village, bought some lace & 
   ribbon for Annie & I to make some sort of fancy collars.  9 1/2 o'clock.
2/24
   Rather stormy.  I went to a "Surprise Party" to Harmy Stockholm's with Abe 
   Wyckoff, had a splendid time, but such dreadful muddy roads.  Annie went with 
   Johnnie Suydam.  There was a very nice company there.  5 o'clock.
2/25
   Rather unpleasant.  We were going to the Mite Society at Laura Brinkerhoff's 
   but the storm prevented, so we staid at home & retired early for instance.  
   Mary S. called here in the afternoon.  7 1/2 o'clock.
2/26
   Quite pleasant.  We had a little company in the evening.  Johnnie Vanderveer 
   & Annie, Phebe W., Johnnie Suydam & Charlie D.B.V. were here.  We had plenty 
   of music & enjoyed ourselves very much.  12 1/2 o'clock.
2/27
   Clear.  Pa & Ma went to Bushwick to Grandpa's to stay all night as Mr. Meeker 
   is going to preach his 50th anniversary sermon tomorrow.  Charlie D.B.V. 
   called here in the afternoon.  9 o'clock.
2/28
   Very cold.  We all staid at home all day.  Quite a long day.  Dave 
   Springsteen spent the evening here.  11 1/2 o'clock.
3/1
   Snowed for the first day of Spring, but it did not amount to much.  We sewed 
   carpet-rags.  I commenced to make a quilt, quite large blocks, but without 
   any name, nameless.  9 o'clock.
3/2
   Pleasant.  Pa took Grandma to U. Frank Lott's to stay.  Pa & Ma went to the 
   village.  Abe Wyckoff came here in the afternoon & staid to supper.  He staid 
   in the evening until 10 1/2 o'clock.  He came in his sleigh to take a sleigh 
   ride, but the snow went away too fast.  He asked me to go to the next 
   sociable if they have one.  11 o'clock.
3/3
   Stormy all day & worse yet at night.  Frank Lott was to come after me to take 
   me to a surprise sociable at Etta Lott's but he thought it was too stormy, so 
   he didn't come.  So about 10 o'clock Abe Wyckoff came & took me & Johnnie 
   Suydam took Annie & we got there after all.  11 o'clock, better late than 
   never we thought.  We had a very nice time.  We staid there all night.  5 
   o'clock.

   Very pleasant.  We slept until 10 o'clock.  Pa came after us in the afternoon 
   in the sleigh.  Frank Lott came here in the evening.  We took a sleigh ride, 
   went to Remsen's, staid there about 10 minutes & came home.  Frank asked me 
   to go to the next sociable, but I was engaged.  Johnnie Suydam & Foster 
   Burtis came around here in the afternoon in a sleigh.  12 o'clock.

   Rather cloudy.  A. Maria is here, she came yesterday.

   Very pleasant.  It snowed quite a great deal last night, so it is quite good 
   sleighing today.  Ma, Sarah, Elouise & Jimmy went to Church, preparation as 
   tomorrow is Communion Sunday.  Pa went to Brooklyn.  A. Maria went home.  9 
   o'clock.

   Clear in the morning, snow in the afternoon & very stormy at night.  We all 
   went to Church except Annie.  It is Communion Sunday.  We went to S.S..  I 
   drove & it snowed very fast.  Abe Wyckoff called here & asked me to sleighing 
   tomorrow.  10 o'clock.
3/8
   Very pleasant.  Abe Wyckoff came here after me in the afternoon & we went to 
   Hempstead, had a very nice ride.  We started about 4 o'clock & got home 10 
   o'clock.  Andrew D.B.V. came here in the afternoon & told us that Theodore 
   Lott is dead.  He died in a fit & he was just "taken in the Church" yesterday 
   as a member.  Pa, Ma & Grandma went down there.  1 o'clock.

   Clear.  A. Maria came here in the morning.  Johnnie Suydam & Johnnie 
   Vanderveer called here in the afternoon.  9 o'clock.
3/10
   Very pleasant.  Pa, Ma, Sarah & I went to the funeral of Theodore Lott.  We 
   went to the house, Church & Evergreen Cemetery with them.  Tonight the 
   sociable is at Husson's, but Annie & I did not go on account of Theo. Lott.  
   Abe & Johnnie came here & spent the evening.  They staid here until 1 o'clock 
   & then went to the party.  Quite a Very Important Night for Annie.  We all 
   had a very nice time.  2 o'clock.

   Very pleasant.  Sarah & Elouise are at A. Anna's, they went last night, came 
   back today.  We commenced to quilt my "rising sun" quilt.  9 o'clock.

   Clear.  Pa & Ma went to the funeral of Mrs. Ludlum.  Uncle John D.B.V. & Mary 
   Lizzie D. called here in the afternoon.  They came after A. Maria.  9 
   o'clock.
3/13
   Stormy.  We are quilting my quilt.  Charlie D. called here in the afternoon, 
   he is going to take us to Annie Vanderveer's Tuesday night.  9 o'clock.

   Clear.  I did not go to Church or S.S.  Whit. Powell was here in the 
   afternoon.  Abe Wyckoff & Johnnie Eldert were here in the evening.  I am going 
   to a concert with Abe the 24th perhaps.  Old folk's concert of our S.S. 
   Jamaica.  1 o'clock.

   Stormy.  I was going to New York with A. Anna, but it was too stormy.  Abe 
   Wyckoff left his blanket & pistol here last night.  9 o'clock.

   Quite pleasant.  Charlie D. called here.  We finished quilting my "rising 
   sun".  9 o'clock.
3/17
   Clear & very cold.  St Patrick's Day.  We had company in the evening.  Mr. & 
   Mrs. VanSlyke, Mrs. Amerman, Uncle Abie & A. Annie, Jimmy Hendrickson & wife, 
   Peter Hendrickson & wife, Uncle Ike & Mary Lib. were here.  Mame staid all 
   night.  12 o'clock.

   Clear & cold.  We had more company to-night.  Some of the neighbors.  Mr. & 
   Mrs. Berry, Mr. & Mrs. B. Carpenter & Jamy, Mr. & Mrs. Everitt, Charlie & 
   Gus, Mr. & Mrs. E. Carpenter & Tut, Mr. & Mrs. W. Baylis, Will Anderson, 
   Jennie & Mrs.  Mame staid again all night.  12 1/2 o'clock.
3/19
   Clear.  Charlie came over in the morning after Mame.  It is her birth-day.  
   She is 21 years old.  Sarah went home with her & staid all night.  Johnnie 
   Suydam spent the morning here.  He brought me my gold breast-pin which I lost 
   the night of Harmy S's party.  He found it down to his house.  10 o'clock.

   Rather stormy.  Charlie brought Sarah home.  Pa & Ma to the village.  9 
   o'clock.
3/21
   Very pleasant.  I had sore eyes & consequently did not go to Church or S.S.  
   The others went to S.S.  Frank Lott came here in the afternoon & staid to 
   supper.  He went away about 8 o'clock.  He asked me to go to a Temperence 
   Lecture next Sunday night.  Mart. VanSiclen came here, he & Annie went to 
   Hester D.'s awhile.  10 o'clock.

   Very pleasant.  We had quite a company here in the evening.  Mr. & 
   Mrs.Brinkerhoff & Laura, I. Amberman & wife, Hendrick Lott & wife, Etta & 
   Carrie, J. D.B.V. & wife, Mr. & Mrs. Andrew D. & Hester, Mrs. Powell, Harmy 
   S. & Gertie, U. Gabe & A. Mary, U. Abe & A. Anna, U. Ike & Mary Lib., 
   Charlie, Lizzie, Mr. & Mrs. L. Ryder, Mr. & Mrs. Purdy were all here.  Lizzie 
   staid all night.  I received a letter from A. Sarah.  1 o'clock.
3/23
   Very pleasant.  Lizzie D. staid here last night & went with us to Andrew 
   D.B.V.'s to spend the evening.  Pa, Ma, Sarah & I went.  We had a very nice 
   time.  There was quite a company of young folks there.  I went to supper with 
   Jake Voris & eat a philopena with him.  Laura B. & I played our duetts.  I 
   wrote a letter to A. Sarah.  1 1/2 o'clock.
3/24
   Rather blustery.  Uncle Abe called here in the morning.  Aunt Maria is 
   staying here, she came yesterday.  Pa, Ma Annie & Sarah went to Mr. Purdy's & 
   spent the evening.  Abe Wyckoff spent the evening here & when our folks came 
   home, who should come in with them but Johnnie Suydam & Frank Lott. It was 
   nearly 12 o'clock & they staid about an hour.  Abe asked me to go to the 
   Temperence lecture next Sunday night, but I was engaged. 1 1/2 o'clock.
3/25
   Very pleasant.  Pa, Ma, Grandma & Sarah went to the funeral of Mrs. William 
   Phraner.  Sarah went to Lizzie D.'s to stay.  Mary was over here.  I retired 
   at the early hour of 8 o'clock for a change.
3/26
   The weather is extremely salubrious, in the morning that is, but it changed 
   before night & got stormy.  Charlie D.B.V. came here & took Annie & I down to 
   Annie VanDerveer's to spend the evening.  They had a small company there & we 
   had a very nice time.  2 o'clock.
3/27
   Clear.  A. Maria went home.  Whit Powell called here in the evening.  He 
   staid until 10 1/2 o'clock.  Annie retired early.  Pa & Ma went to Grange 
   meeting.  I to the village & had my pictures taken.  12 o'clock.
3/28
   Easter Sunday.  Very pleasant.  I went to Church & we drove to S.S.  Frank 
   Lott took me to a Temperence lecture at the Presbyterian Church.  Annie went 
   with John S.  Abe Wyckoff & Johnnie Eldert were here also & spent the 
   evening.  2 1/2 o'clock.
3/29
   Clear.  I staid at home all day.  Sewed on my Mosaic quilt.  Pa got us some 
   new pieces of music at Andrew's for half price, as he is selling out.  I 
   retired early, for instance, 8 1/2 o'clock.
3/30
   Very pleasant.  In the morning I took Pa, Ma & Sarah down to the village.  
   Sarah went to Bushwick to stay, & Pa & Ma went to Brooklyn.  Annie & I went to the 
   village & we all went to Laura Brinkerhoff's & spent the evening.  U. Ike, 
   Charlie & Mary Lib & Husson's were there.  I got the proof of my pictures & 
   Grandma's.  12 1/2 o'clock.

   Very pleasant.  Ma & I went to the village.  I called at Laura B.'s & I went
   to Andrew's & changed some music & got 3 or 4 other pieces.  I also called at 
   Conklin's.  John Suydam & Johnnie S. VanDerveer spent the evening here.  12 
   1/2 o'clock.

   Clear.  Ma took Grandma to U. John D.'s to stay.  Al Morell's wife was 
   buried, but we did not go to the funeral.  I received a letter from A. Sarah. 
    9 o'clock.

   Clear.  Charlie D. called here in the morning.  Annie & I went to Hester 
   D.B.V.'s & staid all night.  Frank Lott, John Suydam & Mart. VanSiclen spent 
   the evening there.  1 o'clock.

   Stormy.  Ma cane after me in the afternoon & brought me home.  I got my 
   pictures, Ma brought them home from Conklin's.  15.  $3.00  10 o'clock.

   Rather stormy in the morning, but clear at night.  I went to Church in the 
   morning.  We did not go to S.S. as we thought it was too stormy.  Abe Wyckoff 
   came here early & we went to the Presbyterian Church.  He asked me to go to 
   the Old Folk's concert the 14th.  Johnnie Suydam & Johnnie Eldert were here.  
   Abe has one of my pictures.  2 o'clock.

   A splendid warm day.  Grandpa & U. Ike called here.  I gave them each one of 
   my pictures.  Annie had her pictures taken.  9 1/2 o'clock.

   Snowed in the morning & cleared off at night.  Charlie D., Mary Lib., Foster, 
   Annie & myself went to Phebe Vanderveer's & spent the evening.  We had a very 
   nice time, dancing, &c.  Abe Wyckoff gave me his picture.  1 1/2 o'clock.

   Clear.  Ma & Jimmy went to the village.  Addie Schoonmaker spent the evening 
   here.  12 o'clock.

   Rather cloudy.  Annie & I went down to Dip. Eldert's & staid all night.  It 
   is the first time we saw the baby.  10 1/2 o'clock.

   Very pleasant.  We came home from Dip's in the afternoon.  Pa & Ma met us in 
   the village.  9 1/2 o'clock.

   Very pleasant.  I did not go to Church, but we all went to S.S..  We are 
   practicing for our Anniversary.  Abe Wyckoff, John Suydam, Jake Voris & 
   George Bouse spent the evening here.  1 o'clock.

   Rather cloudy.  Ma took Sarah & Elouise to school & in the afternoon Ma took 
   Annie & I to Harmy Stockholm's & we staid two nights.  Mr. VanSlyke started 
   on his trip to California.  11 o'clock.

   Snowed all day.  We made Gertie a fleecy basket.  We received a letter from 
   Uncle Peter Hulst stating that Aunt Sarah has a little boy.  10 o'clock.

   Very pleasant.  Harmy brought us home in the morning.  Abe Wyckoff & myself, 
   Johnnie S. & Annie went to an Old Folk's Concert at the Town Hall, Jamaica,

   did nit go to Church.  I went to S.S., taught a class.  Lida went with us.

   came down & Abe was there.  12 o'clock.

   Independence Day.  We celebrated the 4th to-day & had a grandly excellent 
   time.  Abe came to Grandpa's 8 o'clock in the morning & we went to Whelan's & 
   met John Bergen & Sarah, John Eldert & Annie Vanderveer,  John Vanderveer & 
   Julia Colyer, then we all drove out to Canarsie & went out sailing.  Had a 
   lovely sail, stopped at Rockaway about 2 hrs. at Kammel's, then came back to 
   Canarsie, had supper 7 1/2 o'clock, then went back to Grandpa's.  Abe put up 
   his horse there & we started to go see the fireworks, but it was too late.  
   Johnnie was there at night, he couldn't go to the bay.  John & Annie went to 
   Lib.s'.  Abe staid until 11 1/2 o'clock.  11 1/2 o'clock.

   Clear, had quite a heavy shower at night.  We were coming home but it was 
   showery.  Lib. staid at Grandpa's all night.  Ed. McNaughton spent the 
   evening there.  Grandma went to Rochester with George Hulst yesterday & Pa & 
   Ma went to Grandpa's.  Abe took my diamond to have our names put in.  I miss

   We had some rain in the morning.  Margeret Stanley washed for us.  I received 
   a letter from Aunt Sarah.  I expected Abe, but for some unaccountable reason, 
   he did not come.  10 1/2 o'clock.

   Clear in the morning, but rain in the afternoon, quite changeable weather.  
   Pa, Ma, Sarah, Elouise & Jimmy took a ride to Rockaway.  Abe came here and 
   spent the evening.  It is rather difficult for him to get here nowadays, but 
   he hired a conveyance from Brooklyn.  Abe took that letter to send to 
   Washington.  1 o'clock.

   Clear all day, showery at night.  We found plenty of work to do all day.  I

   drove & before we got home, Johnnie & Abe overtook us.  They were here to 
   supper & John Bergen & Sarah Schenck were here also.  They staid until 10 1.2

   Very pleasant.  Annie Kolyer camr here in the morning.  Charlie D. called 
   here in the morning.  About 10 o'clock Ma made up her mind to go to Brooklyn 
   & I went with her, had quite a jaunt.  Ma got a linen basque & overskirt, 
   vail, &c.  I saw a great many people that I know.  9 1/2 o'clock.

   Clear.  We worked hard all the morning getting ready for our picnic 
   to-morrow.  Annie's birth-day.  I gave her a tatting chemise yoke.  9

   The weather was rather dubious, but notwithstanding it, we all went on our 
   Sunday School picnic to Prospect Park.  We went in Charlie's wagon, 6 horses. 
    They had a fine turnout, 9 wagons.  Abe came there in the afternoon & came 
    home with us, he & Johnnie was here to supper & staid until 11 1/2 o'clock.  
    It rained a little, but we had a nice time.  Sarah went out riding with 
    Mart. VanSiclen.  11 1/2 o'clock.

    Clear in the morning, rain in the afternoon.  I took Aunt Hattie & Gertie to 
    the cars, they went home.  Sarah went to Bushwick to stay.  9 o'clock.

   Clear.  Annie got a letter from her John.  I commenced to work a motto on 
   card board for Grandpa.  It is "Nearer my God to thee".  9 o'clock.

   Clear.  I staid at home all day.  Pa & Ma went to the village.  I wrote a

   Clear.  I did not go to Church.  I went to S.S.  Harmy & Gertie, Uncle Abe & 
   Aunt Anna & the children were here to supper.  Abe & Johnnie came before dark

   Rainy.  Annie & I contemplated going to Brooklyn, but the rain prevented.  9

   Clear for a variety.  Annie & I went to B'klyn, had a fine time.  Annie took 
   her diamond ring to Hart's, to be made smaller & I took my onyx ring to 
   Chase's to be made larger.  Annie got a calico dress, pair of kids, &c.  Abe 
   & Johnnie were here in the evening.  They brought 3 qts. of ice-cream, I eat 
   myself nearly sick.  12 o'clock.

   Clear.  I went to Church, also to Sunday School.  Dadie Purdy was absent from 
   my class.  We had quite a number of visitors at S.S.  Abe & Johnnie came 
   together before dark.  We had melons for the first time.  1 o'clock.

   Stormy again.  At home all day, did some sewing, finished a garment, ruffled 
   & tucked.  Ma went to Uncle Abe Stockholm's.  9 o'clock.

   Clear & cool.  Abe & I, Johnnie & Annie went to the Farmer's picnic at 
   Rockaway.  Took the 2 1/2 train & staid till 12 o'clock.  Had a very nice 
   time.  Soft crabs for supper.  Had a stroll on the beach by moonlight, 
   dancing, &c.  Arrived at home 1 1/2 o'clock    $130.00

   Pleasant.  Lib. Kolyer, Lida & Mame called here in the morning, quite a 
   lively crowd.  They staid about an hour.  9 o'clock.

   Clear.  Uncle Abe, Aunt Anne, Uncle Gabe & Addie called here in the evening.  
   Aunt Anna staid here with the children all night to have them here in the 
   morning, as we are going to the Bay.  9 1/2 o'clock.

   A very pleasant day.  We arose at 4 o'clock in the morning to go to the bay.  
   Uncle Abe, Aunt Anna, U. Gabe, Addie, Harm & Gertie, U. Ike, Mame, Pa & 
   Sarah, Johnnie & Abe, Annie & I completed the company.  Had a splendid time.  
   Abe brought me home in his buggy, a lovely ride.  Abe had peaches.  Abe & 
   Johnnie staid here till 11 o'clock.  Naughty boys.

   called at Aunt Anna's.  Jerry Lott & Jake Conover came here before dark &

   Schenck married in the afternoon.  Abe was one of the ushers.  He brought me

   Charlie C. D. & Anna VanSiclen married.  Rained very hard in the night.  1

   village.  Sarah Bergen wishes us to go there next Tuesday, so I wrote a note

   Utrecht.  They left Grandma to Uncle Aaron's to stay.  Abe brought my picture

   afternoon.  Pa & Ma went to Brooklyn, they heard Beecher.  Abe was here.

   Very warm.  Indian summer.  Sarah, Jimmy & I took a trip to the woods, got a

   Clear.  Sarah & I went to Sarah Bergen's (Schenck) to spend the afternoon.  
   Annie came there from Grandpa's & Abe & John came there for us in the 
   evening.  We stopped at Battie's, had our fill of oysters & arrived home 
   about 11 o'clock.  Rain & very dark from Jamaica.  1 o'clock.

   Clear.  Ma & Annie went to the village in the morning.  We trimmed our Fall 
   hats.  Sarah came home, she stayed to Schenck's last night.  8 o'clock.

   Very pleasant.  Abe & Johnnie Came here 9 o'clock in the morning & we went to 
   the American Inst. Fair at N.Y.  Spent the day there & in the evening we went 
   to a concert at Gilmore's Garden.  Left there 10 1/2 o'clock, came home in 
   the 12 o'clock South Side train.  Had a splendid time all day.  Saw a great 
   deal.  Abe gave me a bottle of cologne & a russia leather case to see myself 
   in.  Thoughtful little dear boy.  2 o'clock.

   Clear.  Ma & I went to the village.  Ma went to the funeral of little Frankie 
   Gulick.  I went to the dentist's, made a very Pleasant call, had 6 (six) 
   upper teeth extracted.  They are all gone now.  I have got to go toothless

   Clear.  There are 4 painters here.  The house begins to look quite different. 
    Ma & Sarah went to the Mite Society.  Mary Lib. called here.  Today is Abe's 
    birth-day.  24 years old, but he could not come to celebrate it with me, too

   Stormy.  Aunt Anna, A. Mary & the children were coming, but the rain

   Clear.  Uncle Gabe, Aunt Anna, A. Mary & the children spent the day here.  In 
   the afternoon I went down to Grandpa's, staid all night to Lib.'s.  Abe came 
   there & took Lib. & I down to B'klyn to hear "Moody & Sankey", but we could 
   not get in.  We went to a large Methodist Church, it was very nice.  We got 
   to Lib.'s 9 o'clock.  Abe staid until 11 1/2 o'clock.

   Clear.  I staid all day at Lib.'s.  Went to the Dr.'s with Lib & Aunt Mary to 
   get vaccinated, they did but I didn't.  I staid at Grandpa's all night, Abe 
   was there & spent the evening.  He had some of his new pictures there, they 
   are very good, gave one to Annie & Lib.  We didn't laugh over nothing.  O!

   Clear.  Lida McNaughton called at Grandpa's.  I came home in the afternoon.

   Clear.  Ma & I went to the village.  I went to the dentist's & got my 
   Crunchers.  Oh! how they do hurt.  Annie & Sarah went to Uncle Abe's & staid 
   all night.  Mr. & Mrs. John J. Bergen spent the evening here.  They gave us 
   their pictures.  11 1/2 o'clock.

   Thanksgiving Day.  I staid at home all day.  Pa & Ma went to Grandpa's in the 
   afternoon.  Addie Schoonmaker, Abe & Johnnie spent the evening here.  Addie 
   staid until 11 o'clock.  1 o'clock.

   Clear.  I staid at home all day.  9 o'clock.
11/27
   Clear.  Pa went to New York Ma went to the village for him at night.  He got 
   a pair of coral ear-rings for me.  Uncle Peter Hulst came here & staid all 
   night.  10 o'clock.

   Clear.  I did not go to Church, but I went to Sunday School for the first 
   time in three weeks.  Abe & John were here.  1 o'clock.
11/29
   Cold & blustery.  Annie & I took a walk over to Mary Lib.'s & staid all 
   night.  9 1/2 o'clock.

   Cold, oh, So Cold.  Annie & I walked home in the morning.  Ma & I went to the 
   village.  I went to the dentist's & called at Etta Lott's while Ma went to 
   the Mite Society in the lecture room.  We called at Mrs. Gulick's also.  8 
   1/2 o'clock.
12/1
   Cold but clear.  I had to drive down to the village in the morning.  Sarah, 
   Annie & I went to the first "Star Sociable" at Lizzie A. DeBevoise's with Abe 
   & Johnnie.  There was quite a number there, had a very nice time, arrived 
   at home 3 1/2 o'clock.
12/2
   Quite pleasant.  Annie & I called on Jennie Carpenter & on Mrs. Amberman.  
   Uncle called here in the morning & we, Annie, Sarah & I went there in the 
   evening & went to a Sunday School meeting to practice for the Christmas Tree. 
    Coonie drove us home.  Abe went to a ball, I hope, the last time.  9 1/2 
    o'clock.

   Clear.  Mary Lib. called here in the afternoon.  Johnnie called here in the 
   afternoon as he is going away on a short visit.  Sarah went to Mame's & staid 
   all night.  9 o'clock.

   Claer.  Uncle Gabe came over here in the morning & told us that Uncle Abe 
   Stockholm was very poorly, so Pa & Ma went over there.  Ma staid all day.  9 
   o'clock.

   Clear.  I went to Church.  It was Communion Sunday.  Annie staid at home.  We 
   went to Sunday School.  Abe & Johnnie were here in the evening.  Abe staid 
   until 1 o'clock.  Rather cloudy dull weather, very oppressive.  I hope it 
   will be the last time we will see any clouds.  1 o'clock.

   Rather stormy.  I went to the village in the morning & we went to Uncle 
   Ike's, as they are killing swine.  Uncle Abe Stockholm died yesterday.  I 
   went over there after grandma.  8 1/2 o'clock.

   Clear.  We got up very early in the morning because we had a great deal to 
   do.  Uncle Ike, Uncle Abe & Mary Lib. were here to help us kill pigs.  Liddy 
   (colored woman) was here to help.  Pa, Ma & Grandma went to the funeral of 
   Uncle Abe Stockholm.  9 o'clock.

   Clear.  The ground is covered with snow.  Abe & Johnnie were here in the 
   evening.  12 o'clock.

   Rather stormy.  Pa, Ma, Annie & Jimmy went to Uncle Abe D.'s to spend the 
   day.  Hog killing time.  9 o'clock.

   Clear.  Annie went to Hester D.'s & spent the day.  I went for her & made a 
   call there & to Uncle Ike's also.  9 o'clock.

   Clear.  Annie & I took a trip to B'klyn.  Annie got a pair of slippers for 
   Johnnie.  I called at Laura Brinkerhoff's in the evening.  10 o'clock.
12/12
   Clear.  I did not go to Church.  We went to Sunday School.  Martie & Dadie 
   were both absent.  Pa & Ma went to the funeral of Sarah Horn.  Abe & Johnnie 
   were here, but Such boys.  They took a trip after our winter hats.  They 
   admired them very much.  12 1/2 o'clock.

   Clear.  Had some snow at night.  I commenced to put my "double irish chain" 
   quilt together.  8 1/2 o'clock.

   Clear & cold.  I called on Libby Dayton at Huntting's.  She was very glad to 
   see me & I had a very pleasant call.  Annie & I called on Anna 
   VanSiclen(D.B.V.) at Uncle Abie D.'s.  We staid there to supper.  9 o'clock.

   Clear, had some snow at night.  Abe & I, Johnnie & Annie went to a sociable 
   at Etta Lott's, Jamaica.  Had a very nice time.  3 1/2 o'clock.

   Very pleasant.  Pa & Ma went to B'klyn.  They got fur to trim our cloaks 
   with.  Johnnie was here in the evening.  9 o'clock.

   Clear & cold.  Pa took Annie & I to Jennie Duryea's, we staid all night.  
   Dip. Eldert, Annie & the children were there.  10 o'clock.

   Clear.  Ma came after us in the afternoon.  We called on Annie Duryea.  My 
   cloak is finished & looks very nice.  Charlie D. called here.  9 1/2 o'clock.

   Clear, but So cold.  I went to Church in the morning.  We drove to Sunday 
   School & called to Aunt Anna's.  Abe & John were here.  12 o'clock.

   Clear.  Sarah went to Lizzie D.'s & staid the night.  Pa, Ma & myself went to 
   the Mite Society at Mrs. Degraw's, had a very nice time.  11 o'clock.
12/21
   Very pleasant.  Annie & I went to Aunt Anna's in the afternoon to help fix 
   candies &c for the Christmas Tree at Sunday School.  We filled cornucopias & 
   made motto's.  Pa & Ma came after us.  10 o'clock.

   Very pleasant.  I went to the village in the morning, took Sarah down, she 
   went to Grandpa's.  Mr Hulst called here.  In the evening Abe & Johnnie, 
   Annie & I went in 1 Buggy to Mary Lib.'s & spent the evening.  Johnnie & 
   Annie Vanderveer were there. Had a very nice time & a Nice ride.  1 o'clock.

   Very pleasant.  Pa, Ma & Jimmy went to B'klyn.  Annie & I went to Aunt Anna's 
   in the afternoon.  We went to Sunday School to practice for the Christmas 
   Tree.  George Morrell walked home with us.  10 o'clock.

   Clear.  "Tis the night before Christmas, when all through the house, quite a 
   sensation ensued, NOT as still as a mouse."  Original.  Sarah came home from 
   Bushwick & brought Johnnie slippers.  We dressed our Christmas Tree, fixed 
   the stockings, &c.  10 o'clock.

   Christmas Day.  Abe & Johnnie came here in the afternoon.  Abe gave me a 
   "Ladie's Companion", a book (Infelice) & two pieces of music.  Sarah gave me 
   a hair receiver & I got a hdkf.  I gave Abe a scarf & a KISS.  Abe gave Jimmy 
   a set of blocks.  11 o'clock.
12/26
   Not very pleasant.  I did not go to Church nor we did not go to Sunday 
   School, as it rained.  Abe & John were here.  They brought a jar of pickled 
   oysters.  11 o'clock.

   Very pleasant in the afternoon. In the morning Sarah & I went to the School 
   house to help dress the Christmas Tree which we had in the afternoon.  Abe & 
   Johnnie were there, they brought us home & staid in the evening.  Johnnie 
   went home 9 1/2 o'clock but MY DEARIE staid until 11 o'clock.  Georgie Shnurr 
   was here.

   Stormy.  I satid at home all day.  Pa took Grandma to Aunt Kate Lott's.  8

   Quite pleasant.  Pa & Ma went to B'klyn.  I wrote a letter to Aunt Sarah.

   Clear, but dreadful travelling.  Johnnie came in the evening.  Abe was coming 
   also, but Johnnie did not wait for him, so the poor child could not come.  9

   Clear.  Very busy getting ready for New Year's.

   New Year's Day.  We received call at home.  Had 55 calls & a very nice time.

   I did not go to Church.  We went to S.S.  Abe & Johnnie & Johnnie Eldert were 
   here in the evening.  12 o'clock.

   Abe & I, Johnnie & Annie went to a Star Sociable at Annie Vanderveer's.  4 
   o'clock.
1/13 Thursday
   Abe & I went to a New Lots sociable at Phebe Vanderveer's.  Had a splendid 
   time.  Abe's Mother & Uncle Ad. were there.  Annie did not go.  3 1/2 
   o'clock.
1/20 Thursday
   We spent the evening at Mr. Everitt's, up the road.  I got a letter for Abe, 
   he is in MY CASE.  11 1/2 o'clock.
1/26 Wednesday
   We spent the evening at Janie Carpenter's. 10 1/2 o'clock.
1/27 Thursday
   Abe & I went to the 2nd New Lots sociable at Dip. Eldert's.  Had a splendid 
   time.  I had a swelled face.  I staid there all night.  I slept with Nealie & 
   Annie Covert.  4 o'clock.
1/28 Friday
   Abe came to Annie Delia's for me in the evening & brought me home.  Got home 
   10 o'clock.  12 o'clock.
2/2 Wednesday
   We were going to a sociable at Uncle Ike's but Grandma D.B.V. is very poorly, 
   so they did not have it & I can't go to any more sociable's, so we will sty 
   at home.  1 o'clock.
2/3 Thursday
   We went to a Mite Society at Mr. Van Slyke's.  The house was crowded.  The 
   first snow of the season to amount to anything.  12 o'clock.
2/4 Friday
   Johnnie came & took Annie out sleighing, but my man could not come.
2/5 Saturday
   Pa & Ma went in the sleigh to Uncle Stryker Covert's.  Uncle Abe & Aunt Anna 
   went with them.  Abe took me to Hempstead sleigh riding.  Stopped at Lane's, 
   saw  Mame, Hester &c.  12 o'clock.
2/8 Tuesday
   I went to the auction at Uncle Abe Stockholm's house.  Abe & Johnnie were 
   there.  They came here to supper.  12 o'clock.
2/9 Wednesday
   Annie & I went in the cars to John Bergen's in the afternoon.  We called at 
   Mr. VanSlyke's also.  We staid to John's in the evening & Abe & Johnnie came 
   & brought us home.  12 o'clock.
2/10 Thursday
   I went in the cars to Dip. Eldert's to go to the sociable at Julia Colyer's.  
   Abe came there for me.  Had a very nice time.  Went back to Dip.'s & staid 
   until Saturday.
2/12 Saturday
   I went early in the morning to Grandpa's.  Sarah came there from home.  
   Grandma is very poorly.  Lib., Sarah & I went to B'klyn.  I got a dozen 
   pieces of braid for my new pillow-shams & a new pair of shoes.  I staid to 
   Lib.'s.  Abe came there in the evening.  We called at Lida McNaughton's.  Abe 
   went home 11 o'clock.
2/13 Sunday
   Grandpa took Lib., Sarah & I to Old Bushwick Church.  The Church is all in 
   deep mourning for Mr. Meeker, who had been there 50 years.  I went to S.S. & 
   took Abie Stockholm's class.  Abe came to Grandpa's & took me home.  Jimmie 
   Snyder & Ed. McNaughton were there.  12 1/2 o'clock.
