Notes for John Jr. ROSS

John Ross, Jr. married Rebecca C. Davis 11 February, 1838 by Joseph D. Suit,
J.P. Jefferson Cemetery stone, Clinton County, Indiana: Rebecca Ross, wife
of John, Jr., daughter of George and Rebecca Davis, died Feb. 6, 1832 age 37
years, 7 mo 2d. (Note discrepancy in the above dates. The 1850 census lists
John age 39 and Rebecca age 36 with no children.)
Lived in Perry Township, Clinton County in a dwelling next to his niece,
Catharine (Abraham's daughter) who married John J. Ross of Greene County,
Pennsylvania, a cousin.
Nellie Huffman Henry used the middle initial L. for John but listed his
children in her records. John's brother, William, gave biographical
information for Chapman Brother's History of Vermilion and Edgar Counties in
which he stated John died in Vermilion County, Illinois in 1879 leaving a
wife and five children. John married Susan McCray. The Portrait and
Biographical Album of Vermilion County has a note on page 696: Susan Ross,
widow of John Ross, 10 children, two died as infants. Children: John C., Mary
E., James R., George G., Susan E.; Nancy; Martha and Samuel.
E.L. Duprey furnished me items on the Rosses in Indiana and Illinois and
among them is John, Jr.'s two marriages and the list of his children. Didn't
give source and the children's names differ somewhat from the list above.
John's age is given as 49 in the 1860 census of Carrol Township, Vermilion
County. Wife, S.E. Ross, age 28, R.J. Ross age 5, female; M.E. Ross, age 3,
female, and M.A. Ross, age 1,
