Notes for Henry M. ROSS
Not seen in the 1850 census of Clinton County, Indiana.
The Jefferson Cemetery has a stone: Emeline, d/o Henry M. and Polly Ross, d 8
Aug, 1833, age 6mos 18 days.
The 1846 tax duplicate records showed three parcels totaling 100 acres and in
1851 totaling 220 acres in Clinton County.
The source of dates is from information sent me by William Prather of
Rossville, Illinois which he obtained from a cousin working on another Ross
Line. Unfortunately, she failed to record her source but it is thought to be
from a biography or history of Champaign County, Illinois. I have looked at
three county histories and have not yet found it. Telephone conversations
with William Prather: sheet was sent by Donna Prather. Conversations and
correspondence with Donna, the information was sent to her by her sister in
law, Karen Ross Spezia of Danville, Illinois. She tells me she obtained the
information from a relative, Betty Ross Schultz of Bismark, Illinois who
tells me that her grandfather was Irvin Ross who was a nephew of Karen's
grandfather. They are from Abraham Ross's line. The original family sheets
were submitted by Nellie Huffman Henry of Homer, Illinois in 1967. These
sheets list Henry as being born in Miami County, Ohio. I doubt this due to
numerous tax and deed records for his father, John Ross, in Wayne Township,
Butler County, Ohio. I think she was referring to the fact that this was the
Miami Territory between the two Miami Rivers.
There is a stone in Gaines Cemetery, Edgar County, Illinois: Henry M. Ross,
died Jan 29, 1865, 56y 8m 8d.
