Notes for Martha ROSS

Harold Leckey in his book about the Tenmile Country of Greene County,
Pennsylvania notes that Martha married James McNutt. They may have joined
the brothers and sisters of Martha in Butler County, Ohio but they definitely
joined the families in Clinton County, Indiana.
In the 1840 census of Clinton County James McNutt was next to Abraham Ross
with one male age 5-10; two males 10-15; three ages 15-20; one 20-30 and
one male 50-60 along with two females 15-20 and one 40-50 years of age.
A William McNutt was one house away from John Jackson who married Nancy
Catharine Ross, who was the daughter of John Ross and the niece of Martha
Ross McNutt.
Martha was age 57 in the 1850 census of Clinton County living with Hannah age
27, Jacob age 22, Henry also age 22 and James age 18.
In the 1870 census she is listed as age 79 and living with Hannah age 49.
Martha died in 1876 and is burried in Jefferson Cemetery, Clinton County.
Reverend Frank Gilroy's biography of the Jackson family quotes Lottie Jones'
History of Vermilion County and information from the family descendants of a
William Scott Jackson who apparantly was a son of John Jackson by his first
marriage. William Scott also had a sister, Jane Jackson Hammond and they
state that William was reared by his aunt, Patty McNutt and his half brothers
and sisters were Amos, Andrew, John, Abraham, Martin and Philetta Jackson
Storms. This suggests that Martha Ross McNutt was known as "Patty".
